Time to Reorganize

It’s been awhile since I did a major reorganization around the house. I’ve done kitchen drawers and closets but last week it was time to reorganize big time! It started the day Alex and Lia moved to Indiana and my daughter and her husband were coming down 4 days later. But I had to get it down in 3 days because I wanted to make meatballs one of the days.

My first plan was to move Lia’s Princess room upstairs in what used to be Zac’s room. Before they moved, I told them to work on whatever they wanted to take with them and I’d handle what was left over. Lia never really played with toys, she would rather do baking, hands on experiments or STEM projects so she had her pile of games, some craft projects, books and of course she needed her Princess tent. The bottom of her tent was lined with stuffed animals about 10″ deep. So she sorted out which ones were going with her and which ones were staying here. The first picture is when her room was fairly neat, the other is when she was sorting what she was taking with her.

It was finally time to roll up my sleeves and move her room upstairs. The first thing I did was tear down that wall! LOL We made a wall from puppy pen sections to keep Snowball out when he was a baby but didn’t take long for him to want to go in with Lia. I would find the two of them snuggled in her tent or sometimes just Snowball waiting for Lia.

The next to go was the pile of stuffed animals and I piled them on the couch in the upstairs rec room. Next I started to take her four foot wide two story doll house upstairs. I managed to get the doll house on the landing, turn in to head upstairs and then I realized I needed another set of hands. So when Judy’s son got home from work he came over and we got it moved. Little by little I got things out of the downstairs and up into her new Princess room.

But sometimes organizing isn’t all that easy. There was a few boxes stored in Zac’s room that had all of Lia’s first year stuff… her cute bedding set, all the cute little “My First” clothing that Alex wanted to save. So before I could set up Lia’s new room I had to move those boxes somewhere. I realized that once the stuff in Alex’s closet was gone I could store everything there. Well Alex had bags and boxes of clothes back from when she was in high school! Now I had to move those out to put Lia’s boxes in the back of the closet. I normally like to stay in one area but there was no way that would work with things that had to be moved from here to there. For now they are out of sight and out of mind. But I did buy 4 huge storage bins that I will transfer the stuff from the cardboard boxes into them. Some day, but not right now.

Finally everything was out and I set up Lia’s new room. She has her doll house, her bookshelf and even the curtains that we hung on each side of her tent worked perfect on her window. See the white spot on the carpet? When Zac was maybe 9 or 10 he spilled something and decided to try to clean it. He used Clorox bleach! LOL

The next small problem was were do I put the organ? Then I had a brainstorm and decided to move Zac’s bed out of the room and put the organ there! I also had a metal rack that had been in the closet so I figured I could come up with an idea for that so it went on the wall next to the organ. As soon as things get in their place it didn’t take long to realize the metal rack was perfect to display all the stuffed animals. Lia’s heart shaped rug hides the bleached out part of the carpet.

Lia’s new Princess room is complete and I’m happy with the results. Of course Snowball has to check our her new room set up. It’s all ready when she comes down to visit. Plus when great granddaughter Iris comes over, she now has a place to play. I like to see progress when I reorganize or declutter and I’m happy how everything turned out on this project.

Now you may wonder what I did with Zac’s twin bed, that will be another story! Let’s just say I had a busy three days from when Alex and Lia left and Chris and Bryon come down to visit.
