Time to Make the Donuts!

This is going to be a delicious Friday Story Time by Lia. When I had my early birthday party in Indiana one of my presents was a mini Donut Maker! How cool is that, now it’s time to make the donuts!

This is my pink and purple donut maker! It was heating up while I mixing the batter and it gets very hot. If you are little and baking with the donut maker or any other appliance that gets hot, make sure to have a big person with you to help.

Of course I had to taste the batter before we started and mama tried some too. We both agreed it would make delicious donuts. Once we started pouring the batter in the donut maker we realized we needed to come up with a better plan. When we poured the batter in the donut molds it covered the center so we didn’t have perfect holes in the donuts. Also for our first try we poured too much batter in the molds so it over flowed while baking.

Did I ever tell how smart my mommy is? Well she is so super smart and knows everything! Mommy came up with the idea to put the donut batter in a baggie then snip a corner off so she could squeeze the batter around each mold.

Look how easy it is now to squeeze the batter in each mold! Now our donuts have a hole in the middle when they are finished baking. Don’t they look delicious? Since the donut maker gets very hot I couldn’t touch it or take the donuts out when done.

Look at my delicious mini donuts! Mama and I sprinkled cinnamon and sugar over them while they were still warm. When mama tasted the warm donuts she said they reminded her of the donuts her grandmother made many years ago.

Are you ready to try a donut? Mama and I even got creative and added whipped cream in some and strawberry jam in the others! I would say our first attempt at making donuts was a success!

This is the recipe I used that came with the donut maker but you can also use brownie, muffin or cake mix. I think I’ll try brownies for the next time! Thanks for visiting and maybe you’ll be saying it’s time to make the donuts someday!

  1. Lia I love your Donuts! They look delicious and yummy!

I want a pink and purple donut maker!! What a fun Friday post. I could just eat up her and the donuts. I am wondering if it does donuts with filling – I’m guessing no but just curious how that would work.

    • Martha says:

Well Roy gave us an idea Elisa. He suggested to fill the mold 1/3 full, add crushed frozen raspberries or blueberries and then add batter to fill! Doesn’t that sound delicious? I also have a meat injector I’ve used to inject whipped topping into donuts, that will be another experiment for Lia and me to try!

  3. Those look absolutely delicious! I wonder what pumpkin donuts would taste like?

  4. I think the trick is to fill 1/3 the mold, add some frozen raspberries or blueberries (smashed up, still frozen), and then fill the rest of the mold. Much better donuts.

    • Martha says:

OMG Roy, that sounds amazing! Definitely going to add some raspberries, we always have frozen ones ready for something! Thanks for the great idea.

  5. Oh, how cute! What a neat birthday gift, too. I would have loved something like that when I was younger. Those donuts do look delicious!

  6. Dr.Amrita Basu says:

Oh I loved how easy this donut maker made this entire process.Looks like a great gift

    • Martha says:

It’s easy and fun Amrita. Much better for Lia to have working appliances instead of toy ones, don’t think she would play with them as much as she loves baking.

  7. I like this donut maker. I have made donuts the hard way — hot oil and all! I will have to look into this!

    • Martha says:

That’s how I learned from my grandmother Dominique. While they were delicious it was a big dangerous with all that bubbling oil. These taste like homemade!

  8. Martha, oh yeah, definitely brownie batter next time! Or sweet corn muffin batter. Or maple walnut you can glaze with maple glaze. These look delicious, the maker looks like fun, and the donuts are just Lia’s size! Fabulous!

    • Martha says:

Yes to brownies Kebba! They would be like little brownie bites! All your suggestions sound great! I can see Lia and I will be busy experimenting with donuts!

  9. Alice Gerard says:

I love this. Lia looks so happy with her new donut making machine that produces delicious donuts! And it’s pretty, too! Keep having fun, Lia! I love reading your stories.

Martha, it’s time for your family to open up a bakery. Lia, is on the fast track to become the world’s greatest cook.
