Time to Hit the Road
Check list: Full take of gas in car, suitcases loaded, box of Lia’s homemade cookies for my two sisters, make sure everyone has their phone and charger, bring snacks, drop of Snowball at the Doggy Hotel.
Snowball loves the doggy hotel because he gets to have playtimes with other pups! And we’re off, it’s time to hit the road!
This is not a little sneak away, this time it’s a week long trip to upstate New York, our old stomping ground! My older sister lives in Albany, New York and my younger sister lives in Maine. She will be traveling to New York also, it’s the first time the three of us will be together since the mid 80’s! It will be the first time in five years since Alexandra, Rich and I have been to New York and Lia has never been there! Nancy, my younger sister has met Lia when she lived in South Carolina but she moved to Maine a few years ago. Anne has never met Lia except through the pictures on Face Book, we’re looking forward to a mini reunion!
It’s also Rich’s and my 55th wedding anniversary and we will be going back to St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic church in Schenectady, NY where we were married on July 29, 1967. Rich’s birthday is July 31st so we’ll have to find a yummy birthday cake while we’re there!
It takes anywhere from 12 to 14 hours depending on the route we take and since we are leaving mid morning, we may stop when it gets dark so Lia can run around in a motel for the night to get some exercise after sitting in her seat all day.
We will be making a few surprise stops while in the area and I’m sure there will be lots of changes since the last time we were there.
So it’s time to hit the road and start our journey northward! My mouth is already watering for a delicious burger from Jumping Jacks along the Mohawk River! This is a greasy fast food drive-in that has been there forever. The even have delicious soft serve ice cream! I’ll have my laptop with me so I won’t miss reading and commenting on my friends blogs!
EDIT: The last minute Lia said she wanted to ride her bike along side of the car and bring Snowball. I told her she couldn’t take her 2 wheeler because of all the big trucks in the road plus she didn’t have a basket on it. So she runs out in the garage and pedals her tricycle in with Mickey Mouse on her lap and Snowball stuffed in her basket. He fit in it when we got him a year ago! She finally agreed to ride with us and take Snowball to his doggy hotel.
Have a safe and enjoyable trip! I was already to go if Rich couldn’t make it!😊
Oh well, a day late and a dollar short Steve! LOL
I love road trips! I’m excited for you guys! Lia’s car is beyond fancy 🙂
I can’t believe you haven’t seen your sisters in 40 years – you will have the time of your lives!
You got married in Schenectady? We stayed there one night on our way from Niagara Falls to Boston. I thought it looked like the perfect small town from an old movie.
Yes we got married in Schenectady and is like that Tamara, an old town! I think I miscalculated after going back in time, it was more like 30 years but still way to long to go! Wait until you read the ending!
Enjoy your trip. Happy Anniversary! Happy Birthday to Rich! Have a wonderful and safe journey.
Thank you Brenda from Rich and me! We had a wonderful time!
What a fantastic celebration! May you revel in each other and your family.
It was a trip that we were excited to go on. It was extra special because Alex and Lia were able to meet family they had never seen. Thanks for visiting Roy.
Martha, you are well and truly on a big road trip! I hope you’ll get pictures of the 3 of you sisters together! Have a super super time!
It was the beginning of a fantastic trip Kebba! Wait until you see the ending!
