Time for Dinner

Time for Dinner and look what we’re cooking!   My granddaughter and I were whipping up some delicious chicken meals for next to nothing for us and my hubby.

I got some really good deals on Sanderson Farms natural chicken, one package had three huge boneless, skinless breasts marked down to $4.02 and the other had fourteen chicken drumsticks marked down to $3.40.  I took out two breasts and six drumsticks for today’s meals.  I froze the extra breast and eight drumsticks for a few meals in the future.

I started by baking one of the breasts and the drumsticks until the kitchen smelled delicious. I removed the breast and put in a small baking dish, covered it with spaghetti sauce and sprinkled with shredded mozzarella, put back in the oven at 350 degrees while the drumsticks that I covered with spaghetti sauce continued to bake, boiling up spaghetti and macaroni to go with chicken.

Meanwhile Alexandra was whipping up her delicious part.   She started by cutting the breast in chunks and cooking it in a frying pan.  Her next step was to take a package of Knorr chicken with broccoli noodles and cook them up. While that was boiling, she added the cooked chicken and cut up broccoli together.  While the Knorr package was cooking, she added the chicken and broccoli to it and continued to let it simmer.

Alexandra’s meal was completed just as I pulled the chicken out of the oven.  Talk about a delicious meal, not to mention the cost!  The chicken, noodles and broccoli cost about $3.00,  the chicken parmesan with spaghetti cost about the same and the chicken legs with macaroni costs $2.00.

Alexandra and I had prepared enough food for three people with three chicken legs and half the chicken parmesan left for tomorrow.  There is plenty of the Knorr chicken meal left for two more meals.   So the total spent on the three different meal varieties for the three of us cost $8.00 tops with leftovers for at least three more meals.

I love coming up with inexpensive but delicious meals and it’s extra special when cooking together with my granddaughter.
