Throwback Tuesday from Years Ago

I know it’s supposed to be Throwback Thursday but I’m changing it this week. Today will be Throwback Tuesday from years ago because it was when I tackled the master bedroom closet I found this Easter memory from 1969.

This sweet little cutie is our first born daughter, born on Christmas day 1968. This is a picture of Christine on her first Easter, April 6, 1969.

I made her Easter outfit, a white batiste dress and bonnet with delicate pale yellow lace trim hand stitched on the cuffs and bonnet.

I learned how to embroider from my mom when I was much younger and I embroidered the flowers along the bonnet and yolk of the dress.

I also found a lock of hair from Christine’s first hair cut on January 2, 1970. Her lock was wrapped in plastic and when I took it out of the box I immediately saw it was in the shape of a heart. I don’t remember what shape it was when I wrapped it in plastic from 1970 but the box hasn’t been opened since then so it most have been. Finding memories like this is like opening a time capsule from 55 years ago and I remember both of these special occasions so well.

I have so many memories of Chris growing up but the one thing I don’t remember is….where did the time go between 1968 and 2024? Just yesterday Chris was telling me she’s been get mail about “A Place for Mom” but doesn’t know why. Her husband asked, “Are you inquiring for your mom?” Chris replied and said no and then asked Bryon, “Are you inquiring for me?” Now you know where I get my sense of humor from! LOL

  1. That’s funny! And I can well imagine that you two have the same sense of humor because you look exactly alike. How sweet that you found an Easter time capsule, of sorts. That almost makes me want to do some cleaning and decluttering. Almost.

It seems like the older we each get, the closer we get Jeanine. Chris has no become my “mother” and is always checking on me. I love her so much.

I graduated HS in 1968, and my daughter was born in ’71 – those precious babies!

Memories last forever Barbara. I even have the Christening gown my grandmother made for my mom and her siblings then passed it done for my sisters and me. I ended up with it for my children, grandchildren and great grandduaghter to wear.

  5. What a beautiful memory, Martha! The hand-stitched dress and bonnet sound so precious, and finding that heart-shaped lock of hair must have been so special. Thanks for sharing this lovely glimpse into your past

Thanks Jasmine, I’m just an old sentimental gal. But now I’m making boxes for my children and grands with their pictures, mementoes, etc for them to decide what to do with. I can’t toss anything but it will be up to them now.

  6. What a sweet post. Love you guys.
