Three Themes of the Guest Room
I finished my three themes of the guest room! It took some time because I needed to think this out as to how to be able to decorate it three different ways.

I started in August with a new mattress platform with storage drawers underneath, this is really cool as I can store each different bedding in them. Then in October I completed the first guest room. It started out teal and my neighbor April helped me paint it gray. I decorated it in a football theme with Alabama Crimson Tide for my daughter Chris and San Francisco 49ers for her hubby. I added some nick knacks of owls, snowman and light houses for Chris and eagles and Native American items for Bryon. I even made a wall hanging and team pillows for them. They were both surprised and excited to see their new room.

When it came time for Lia to come visit over Christmas I turned the sports room into a little Princess room complete with her heart shaped rug I made when I decorated her nursery and lots of her special animals. I added her favorite themed celestial blanket to the rod under the owl shelf. When she opened the door to her new room, she flopped on the bed and said, “I love it!”

It was time to pack Lia’s bedding away and come up with a plan to decorate it for just a guest room. For this I decided to have a simple look of a white comforter and add a variety of pillows that would complement the ocean picture over the bed. Then just to break up all the white, I added a shaded blue throw at the end of the bed. Since I didn’t have anything that would work as a wall hanging, I temporarily added a scarf I got when Rich and I visited Italy back in 2005. I’m sure I’ll find some fabric stashed in a box to make something more suitable.

I’m happy the way the three themes of the guest room turned out to be a sports room, a princess room or a plain simple room. Check off this room as complete! I wonder what my next project will be.

Oh my gosh! How beautiful! You have a gift for decorating, and I really love the owls!
Thanks Alice, I had so much fun coming up with ideas, especially for me daughter and son-in-law’s sports room! And Lia was so excited to see her “new” room. Now I need a guest for the plain room, want to come down?
I applaud the time, energy, love and effort that go into redecorating your guest room not once but three times! All themes are nice, and of course did your lucky guests enjoy and appreciate it!
And of course it doesn’t stop there. We all know your hospitality expands into the kitchen!
Thanks Tamara, I truly enjoyed creating each room and all my guests loved their newly decorating rooms.
You’ve done a lovely job, with the different room decorations and themes! The rooms really seem welcoming!
Nadya
Thanks Nadya,I have fun creating them all.
What a great blog post. Do you have any ideas on how to spruce up a studio apartment on a budget? We don’t have a bedroom door only an open hallway.
Thanks Amanda! If you can email or message me some pictures of your hallway and door, I’m sure I can come up with a few ideas! And I love decorating on a budget!
You did a pretty good job organizing your guest room, Martha. I like your choice of themes. The owls definitely got my attention. Lia is getting taller now and looks like she’s still having fun with those stuffed toys.
Thanks Danwil, this was definitely a fun project and all the guests loved their rooms. Yes Lia is growing like leaps and bounds, at 7 years old, she’ll be taller than her mom before we know it! LOL And what kid, big or small doesn’t like to cuddle a stuffed animal?
