Three Month Healthy Eating Plan Update

Three Month Healthy Eating Plan Update

I started my healthy eating plan in July and so far I’ve stayed on track. I’m not following any particular diet plan, more so just trying to watch my sugar, carbs, and eat more protein and vegetables.  This is my three-month healthy eating plan update.

For those who haven’t read my other blogs on my healthy eating, it started with me being diagnosed with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD).   I wasn’t over-weight, have never smoked or drank alcohol and don’t have diabetes.  However I did love my sweet tea and was never without a super large glass of it!  Not to mention having chocolate brownies or cake for breakfast and loving my chocolate candy bars!  But in July that all changed.  I wiped sweets totally out of my eating plan along with white potatoes, rice and bread I cut way back on.

I haven’t had a white potato since July but I love making faux potatoes from cauliflower, here is my blog with the recipe for them. http://themarthareview.com/faux-mashed-potatoes/    I have switched to brown rice or Quinoa and sugar-free wheat bread.  I also haven’t had ANY sweet tea but it hasn’t even bothered me, I just add frozen berries to flavor my water and it’s a different kind of sweet, delicious!  These are basically the only major changes I have made to my diet and I have lost about 15 pounds. Although my hubby wasn’t pleased with this, I am feeling great and my tummy issues are just about gone.

Back in 2009 I had a mini stroke that affect my throat, vocal cords and esophagus and caused swallowing difficult.  I don’t know all the medical terms but my pylorus sphincter wasn’t opening and closing correctly after my stroke and I had severe bloating in my upper stomach until the value started working.  Since I started my healthy eating plan in July, I haven’t had hardly any problems bloating after I eat!  I am feeling great and able to eat without being in pain..

That was until yesterday……. I bought some fresh Italian rolls for hubby and I cut a chunk off one, lathered it with butter and had my first piece of white bread since July!  Let me tell you, it will be my last!  I didn’t realize one piece of white bread would bring back so much pain and stomach bloat but I’m not going to chance it and have another. I’ll stick to my wheat bread with my organic fruit spread.

For snacks, I have fresh vegetables or fruit, a protein bar or a healthy smoothie.  When I make a smoothie, I use pineapple, mango, strawberry, banana or what ever fresh fruit I have, add some crushed ice and sometimes a teaspoon of protein powder and blend it all together.  They are so delicious with their natural sweetness and very filling.  I even have smoothies for breakfast when I’m in a hurry.   I have also made a few healthy treats, one being Organic Almond Joy bars http://themarthareview.com/organic-almond-joy-bars/ and another my delicious Chocolate Avocado cookies http://themarthareview.com/chocolate-avocado-cookie-recipe/ !

The end of July I planned on adding exercise so I would have not only a healthy eating plan but a total healthy living plan.  Well, I haven’t started an actually workout plan on my cardio bike and weight machine, but I do about 20 minutes each morning working on stretching and bands. I have been getting plenty of exercise by walking, bending and lifting boxes and boxes while cleaning out our shop of 53 years. I do want to get on a regular exercise routine but I want to start when I know I will be able to stick with it.

I’m enjoying my healthy eating and lifestyle plus I’m always looking for new and exciting meals that are low in carbs and sugar plus quick, healthy meals.  I have my next blood work for my NAFLD in November and I’m anxious to see the report on any changes.

    Hi Martha,
Congratulations on the new life plan and the success you have had. You may have a book coming out on this plan soon.
It is surprising how a small piece of bread can cause so much problem. Someone needs to research what is going into bread that is destroying the health of a nation.
Be well and Blog On !

Thanks Doug, I’m not sure what it is about white flour, rice and potatoes. But I’ll let you in on a little secret, it wasn’t exactly a “small” piece of bread, it was homemade Italian bread and I think I ripped off a bit more than I should have. LOL But I learned my lesson, I’ll stick to wheat bread or a protein bar next time.

Wow, that looks really delicious. I like to make smoothies, although I usually add plain Greek yogurt, and I leave out the ice (my teeth are fussy). I’m glad that your eating plan makes you feel better! Enjoy!

I’ve had a few others mention about using yogurt in smoothies, I may just have to try that! Smoothies are so delicious and filling! Thanks for stopping by and yogurt tip!
