The Flowers are Blooming

The Flowers are Blooming

I love the springtime when the flowers are blooming, they are so colorful and the while the azaleas don’t last as long as I’d like, the roses take over and show their beauty from spring to early winter.  My mom loved flowers and when she passed away, we made a memory garden and planted some of the flowers from her funeral.  I miss my mom and when I go out to the garden, I can feel her presence.  I know she is watching down and guiding me.  These flowers are in memory of my mom who I love and miss so much.

The flowers are blooming,

The ones from mom’s garden.

The memories consuming,

I miss her so much.

I knew what to do,

When God called mom home.

Have a garden to view,

For mom to watch from above.

How I wish the blooms lasted longer, this started out as a small funeral plant in 2000 and each year it grows and grows like my mom’s love did for her family.

The roses are just beginning to bloom but in a few weeks the bushes will be loaded with fragrant roses that last until winter. Depending on the weather, we have them even in January!

I hope you enjoyed walking through my mom’s garden.  What are your favorite flowers?

  1. These are beautiful! My heart goes out to you for the loss of your mother. I lost my younger brother in 2009 and planted a hydrangea in his memory. Along with the hydrangea, I also love hyacinth, any kind of lily, and lilacs. We are getting ready to plant our garden as well as flowers – I can’t wait! Thanks for sharing!

I like to think that when we plant flowers for the love ones we have lost, they are still with us in our hearts. I love hydrangeas, a beautiful why to memorialize your brother. How I miss the lilacs that we had when we lived in upstate New York, the yard smelled wonderful! Thanks for visiting Shelly.

Wow, those flowers are gorgeous! What a wonderful tribute to your mom. I wrote about flowers in my blog post, too, but here, we are having winter/spring so our flowers are getting doused with alternating downpours of rain and snow. But, still snowdrops and crocuses will grow right through the snow so that is encouraging.

My favorite flowers are lilacs and portulaca. I like lilacs for the big blooms and the wonderful aroma and portulaca for the delicate and brightly colored flowers.

OMG, when will your snow end Alice?!? I visited your post and love your early spring flowers popping up. I miss the lilacs we had in upstate New York, our yard smelled so good! I like to think mom is looking down and smiling over her gardens. Thanks for visiting!

  3. Those flowers are GORGEOUS!! And such a lovely tribute! I am allergic to flowers, so couldn’t keep the flowers from my mom’s funeral. But I agree with that sentiment. I’d go get my mom, too, if I could.

Since we can’t go get our moms, Jeanine, the next best thing is holding all the wonderful memories we have of them in our hearts. Since you are allergic to flowers, you can view mine with no worry of having a reaction! Thanks for visiting and hold on tight to the memories. Hugs!!

What lovely flowers! Here in Jersey we haven’t had many flowers. The cold is killing the poor things.

Thanks Brenda! I’ve been following the northern weather and wondering if you are going to skip spring and just go into summer! I’d say enough of the cold weather is enough! Hope you get to enjoy your flowers soon!
