Storing Pot Lids Challenge

Some challenges are quick and easy but they get things done! One of my readers mentioned that challenges are like a puzzle, you try different pieces to complete the puzzle and in a challenge, you search for different ideas and ways to do things to complete the challenge. Today my storing pot lids challenge is somewhat simple but I needed somewhere to store them and of course the challenge was to search around the house for something that would work.

A few years ago I received a lid rack to review but I converted it into a rack to store baking pans since it took up less space in my cupboard.

Still re-organizing the kitchen we purchased a new set of pots and pans and they each came with glass lids. My old set had metal so I could store then under the stove and didn’t have to worry about them breaking. The new set is glass plus they have a knob style handle that would take up too much room. So off on my hunt to find something that would work.

Nothing in the garage would work, nothing in the closets I could use and I wasn’t about to run to the store just yet. I decided to put my project on hold as I had some computer work and printing to do. That was it, there was the puzzle piece! I opened the computer cabinet and there it was…a letter holder that was just waiting for me to re-purpose it into a lid holder!

Next I grabbed an empty plastic storage bin and put the letter holder in it and added my pot lids. They fit perfect plus I can pull the bin out to get the lids in the back. My puzzle for this storing pot lids challenge was complete and I now found new purpose for something I wasn’t using. Do you search around the house and come up with a new plan for an unused item before purchasing something? So maybe I’m cheap or frugal but I love a challenge and like coming up with a new use for something that is just hanging around collecting dust!

You have wowed me again, Martha! I have so much junk laying around here but maybe, it’s not junk, it’s something useful waiting to be repurposed. You’re definitely help me view things in my home differently.

Organizing stuff at home is a challenge in our household. We have our stuff all over the house. I like the way you arranged your pots and lids from these pictures. Well done!

I purchased one of those lid holders, but I never really used it. We just bought some induction cookware so I need to finish decluttering pots that I can’t use. This reminds me to go back to give the holder another try!

A letter holder – sure, why not???
I don’t think I have enough room for the entire “construct” though. Then again I don’t have very many pots.

  5. What a creative idea! That rack works well for storage.

  6. Martha, yes! It’s always a dither to figure out how to store pot lids, storage container lids, and trays. Ack!
But you have come up with a solution that works– hallelujah! I actually have some hard-to-reach cupboard spaces in which I put shallow cardboard boxes to hold baking supplies, canned goods, and such. I have gradually replaced the cardboard boxes with clear plastic storage boxes– no lids wanted!–and now only about 2 cardboard boxes remain after 19 years. (laughing!!!) Making progress! Btw do you have any hard-to-reach cupboard spaces?

I too have many cardboard storage boxes Kebba but am slowly switching to plastic thanks to Dollar Tree prices. LOl I have a few had to reach spots but I use them for mostly things I only use yearly.

  7. I always get great organizing ideas from your posts!!

I never thought of using a letter holder, but I have lids like these and not much space in the apartment so will pick up one at our office store. When in our home I always reused stuff but here I can’t and things I need are in storage which drives me batty. I seem to go to the storage every other week to switch things out which is fine because I am not spending money or purchasing more stuff to find places for. Or Charlie wasn’t a different bike or Scooter.

  9. My grandpa has a holder like that. 🙂
