Stopping Grocery Shopping
It’s the beginning of the new year and I will be stopping grocery shopping. No not forever but just until I get the stock from our freezers and pantry are depleted. I like doing this every year since I tend to stock pile items when they are on sale.
I also love leftovers because there are so many different ways to prepare the same meal you may have had for 3 days!
For Christmas I prepared a delicious baked ham dinner but there are always leftovers. One day I reheated the fixings, another day we had ham sandwiches but the next dinner was my favorite! It was breakfast for dinner! I fried up some ham along with the scalloped potatoes and heated up the green bean casserole. But the main course was a delicious omelet. I cut up pieces of ham and onions, tossed in some of the scalloped potatoes and extra cheese to some eggs. When just about ready, I slapped a piece of swiss cheese on top and was that delicious when the cheese melted. Since hubby doesn’t like cheese I prepared his plain but mine looks so yummy!
New’s Year Day I cooked breakfast and dinner early morning. I popped cinnamon rolls in the oven while making a stew in the crock pot. I like cooking this way, the house smells so good while the stew is cooking. There was enough leftover stew for two more meals!
Today I decided to use up one of the packages of T-Bone steak, there were 2 steaks in a package and were on sale for $3.99 per pound! Needless to say, we stocked up on these. The two steaks hubby and I had for dinner came to a total price of $7.40! Of course we had leftovers to have steak and eggs for breakfast!!
Not only was the steak with onions delicious, I loved the twice baked loaded potatoes I made. They are not only topped with bacon and cheese, but mixed in with the potato as well.
This is my quick and easy recipe for my twice baked loaded potatoes. I bake the potato, cut in half and scoop out the center. I mix that with butter and milk, add crumbled bacon, fried onions and shredded cheese before I put the potato back in the skins. Next I top with even more bacon and cheese before I microwave them for about 30 seconds until the cheese is melted.
What’s Left
These are just a few of the meals I’ve made since Christmas and I still have two turkeys, a few packages of steaks, pork chops and salmon left before I start my refilling the freezer. Then I’ll start over looking for great sales at the grocery store.
Great ideas! Thank you!
This is a January ritual for me Katie! Thanks for stopping by.
Those all look great! I love breakfast for dinner – in fact, I mention that in my blog post for tomorrow. Sometimes I stockpile a little, too, so I know what you mean.
Omelets are one of the things I love to make now that I’m on my healthy eating plan. I can add so many different vegetables in them and change the taste. Thanks for stopping by Jeanine.
Well, that looks yummy. I think that I will make an omelet for breakfast tomorrow morning!
I love omelets for any meal Alice! Plus there are so many different things to put in them to make them so yummy! Hope you enjoyed your omelet!
I am also in the process of cleaning out both freezers and my Pantry as well. I used to go through the Pantry each month and not by anything I didn’t need. If I had extra food I took it to our neighbor who runs out of money at the end of the month. But I stopped that when the Holidays got busy. But with a New Year it’s time to begin again and to use Coupons as its a great way to save for the trip David wants us to take as a family.
Some people say coupons aren’t worth the time but I figure if I can save $5.00 or so per shopping trip, that adds up at the end of the month and then year! Great idea to save money used from coupons for a trip! Thanks for stopping by Glenda.
