Stock Up The Freezer
I am known to many as being thrifty and always checking out sales when grocery shopping. I like to stock up the freezer with meat and poultry when they are on sale and then I usually don’t buy any more until the freezer is just about empty. Well today was the restock day and I came home with some great sales and enough meat and poultry to last almost a month.
I purchased steak, turkey breasts, chicken drumsticks and breast, ground beef and liver. Okay, don’t turn your nose up over my liver, I love it smothered with bacon and onions.
The boneless rib-eye steaks were on sale for $4.99 a pound and from the 4 steaks I can get at least 4 if not 6 meals from that. Turkey breasts were on sale for 99 cents a pound so I grabbed two of them, one was $6.14, the other $7.80. Between the both of them, there is another 4 to 6 meals.
The boneless chicken breasts were huge and on sale for $1.59 while the drumsticks were on sale for $1.49 per pound. I package them in bags, freeze them so they don’t touch so I can pull out how ever many I need for a dinner. From the 7 breasts and 14 drumsticks, I can get 12 meals out of them. I like Chicken Parmesan from the breasts and hubby likes grilled or baked legs.
For the three pounds of ground beef, I divide about 2 pounds in equal portions to use for stuffed peppers, burgers or chili. The other pound I put in freezer bag for meat loaf or meatballs. Depending on what I decide to make with the ground beef, For $6.99 I got three pounds of ground beef that I will get 5 or 6 meals from. Then there is my delicious liver! I love liver smothered with bacon and onions and it was only $3.29 that will get me 4 more meals. While I’m cooking liver for me, I’ll make a delicious stuffed pepper for hubby. I will come up with a variety of recipes and with the left-overs, I’ll make delicious chicken salad, turkey casserole or turkey soup would be good on a chilly day.
With the sale prices I was able to get all this meat and poultry for $52.10 and it will make at least 30 meals plus leftovers from some, averaging $1.75 for each. I’ll add potatoes or rice, vegetables and a salad for delicious but economical meals. I enjoy looking for sales and saving money but still have healthy meals.

I like to stock up too, but since we have a small freezer, its tough. when I stock up I buy the family packs when they are onsale , and then use my foodsaver vac to make the food last longer… best money I ever spent.
That’s the best way to get good sales Kelly on the family packs. I’ve never had a foodsaver vac but I’m thinking maybe I should look into one. Glad you have the same thinkings as me! Thanks for visiting.
i can’t ready any of this because of the Martha ads that keep popping up, and blocking your article.
Hmmm, sometimes that happens if the font is too large, can you resize your screen? Sorry you couldn’t read it but thanks for trying Janet.
