I stepped outside my comfort zone for milk when I received a container of Pacific Foods Ultra Soy Plant-Based Beverage to test. I have never tasted soy milk before but I was pleasantly surprised how good it tasted. It seemed more creamy and rich compared to whole milk. Soy milk is a great source of protein, 10 grams per cup and 280 mg of calcium plus it’s a good source of Vitamin D. It’s dairy free, carrageenan free and gluten free. The container had suggestions for use – by the glass, in smoothies and in recipes such as soups, sauces and salad dressing. Of course as soon as I saw good for smoothies Lia and, I decided to try some soy milk smoothies.

Lia and I got busy coming up with ideas for our smoothies, she wanted chocolate and I had strawberry in mind. I’m not sure if you would call these smoothies or faux shakes because with the soy milk they had a texture more like a shake but with the crushed ice, they were more in line with a smoothie.

We made Lia’s first, to the blender she added 1/2 banana, crushed ice, 1/8 cup soy milk, and drizzled chocolate syrup before blending together. As Lia was sipping on her smoothie, I made mine.

Mine had 1/2 banana, 5 cut up frozen strawberries, crushed ice, chocolate syrup, soy milk, and 1/2 teaspoon coconut flavoring.

After Lia saw the strawberries in my smoothie she cut up 3 and added chunks of them in her smoothie. I think our recipes were right on for delicious especially since we used the strawberries that Lia picked!

Both of the Soy Milk smoothies were very tasty and we will experiment by adding other flavors to our next smoothies, I’m thinking a pineapple one would be yummy! Oh and cake batter sprinkles on top of the whipped cream completed the photo shot of my smoothie. I like a delicious fruit smoothie, it’s a great refreshing drink on a hot day plus it’s healthy!

Healthy smoothie recipes. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Hi Martha and Lia, I have never tried a soy smothie, but yours look delicious. I may just have to try my own, I would probably mix both of yours and have a chocolate/strawberry smoothie, that’s what popped into my head while reading this. Thank you for sharing!

Sending lots of love and gratitude,

When I was pregnant with my son almost 19 years ago, I found a recipe for soy milk smoothies/shakes. That was my intro to soy milk. They were calorie-laden since they were for pregnant women. You could use yogurt or if you wanted a treat — ice cream. I wanted a lot of treats1

We still use soy milk in our smoothies sometimes.

I may not have every tried the soy Dominique if it wasn’t for receiving the container to test. That’s why I like testing products!

  4. Looks delicious and so versatile, Martha! I like how you explained that they could be like a shake or a smoothie. Thanks!

I like how the almond milk adds a bit of substance for thickening Victoria but not as thick as a milk shake. Either way it’s delicious!

Mmm, this looks tasty. I have not tried soy milk yet, but I will now, for sure. I also like your choice of adding coconut flavor. There are so many combinations to choose from. You and Lia chose well. Thanks for sharing!

Lia and I love to experiment with recipes Marc especially with flavor. My favorite when baking cakes or cookies is to substitute almond for vanilla flavoring.

  6. Your smoothies look delicious! I have been using soy and almond milk for almost three decades now, Martha. I’ve grown so used to their taste that cow’s milk smoothies make me nauseous. 😁

Oooh, that looks delicious! I have a blender now and will have to try that, without the crushed ice because of my overly sensitive teeth, lol.

I stopped using soy products a few years ago because I avoid GMO foods. Almost All Soy and Corn grown in the United States are GMO products. But for those that don’t believe there is any problem with GMO’s it is another product that looks healthy on the wrapper. Almond milk or Coconut milk for me. I consider them a much healthier choice.

Hmmmm, the carton says “NON GMO” so was hoping that meant it was safe to use Chef William. I always check for make sure it’s non GMO, I’ll have to check into the coconut milk, my granddaughter uses almond milk!
