Song of the Day 25
Song by an artist no longer with us
February 3, 1959 was the day the music died for Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper, J.P. Richardson. For Song of the Day 25 I am writing about a song by Buddy Holly.
I liked the music recorded by both Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens but since I already wrote about Ritchie, today I’m celebrating buddy Holly. This is Ritchie Valens song I wrote about, We Belong Together for Song of the Day 9.
Well, that’ll be the day, when you say goodbye
Yes, that’ll be the day, when you make me cry
You say you’re gonna leave, you know it’s a lie
‘Cause that’ll be the day when I die

For Song of the Day 25, the prompt is a song by an artist no longer with us and I’m sharing That’ll Be The Day by Buddy Holly. He first recorded this song on July 22, 1956 with The Three Tunes. He re-recorded it with his band, The Crickets on February 25, 1957. Buddy Holly was knew to many as a pioneering figure of mid-1950s rock and roll.
But Buddy Holly’s life was taken way too soon in a plane crash minutes after takeoff after the concert at Clear Lake, Iowa. The crash also took the lives of Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper. February 3, 1959 was the day the music died for Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper, J.P. Richardson. This is a blog I wrote a few years ago: http://themarthareview.com/the-day-the-music-died/
love this era of music….yes, it was a sad day indeed. Did you know there is a Buddy Holly Park in Lubbock, Texas? There is also a statue of him there.
LaBamba was a good movie that showcased Richie Valens’ story of how he died alongside Buddy Holly.
We have watched LaBamba every time it’s on TV Nancy! I love both Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Boppers music and the world sure lost some great musicians the day the music died. I did read about the park and statue, what a great tribute.
I never knew about this artist before.
He was way before you time Amanda! Good old rock and roll from the 1950’s!
Charlies and I saw a play about Buddy Holly. It was amazing. I love all there music .We always watch LaBamba.
I love the music from their era Glenda! We always watch LaBamba when it’s on and no matter how many times we’ve watched it I still cry
