Song of the Day 21
Song that has a person’s name in the title
As we enter the Song of the Day 21, I had picked out a song that has a person’s name in the title but I used that for a song about school on Day 8. That song was Charlie Brown by the Coasters.
So I had a few others in mind but when I checked online, I found one with my name in the title! Of course I had to pick this song! I wasn’t a Beatle fan during their time but I did like some of their songs however I never heard them sing Martha My Dear!

Martha My Dear was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney on October 5, 1968. Paul had a sheepdog named Martha but he actually wrote this song about his “muse” – the voice in his head that tells him what words and music to write. That’s how he came to name his dog Martha.
Martha, my dear
Though I spend my days in conversation, please
Remember me
Martha, my love
Don’t forget me
Martha, my dear
Hold your head up, you silly girl
Look what you’ve done
When you find yourself in the thick of it
Help yourself to a bit of what is all around you
Silly girl
Take a good look around you
Take a good look; you’re bound to see
That you and me were meant to be
For each other
Silly girl
Hold your hand out, you silly girl
See what you’ve done
When you find yourself in the thick of it
Help yourself to a bit of what is all around you
Silly girl
Martha, my dear
You have always been my inspiration, please
Be good to me
Martha, my love
Don’t forget me
Martha, my dear
I still think it’s neat to find a song that has a person’s name in the title and it happens to my mine! But do you want to know something else? We had a dog and his name was Marty, he was the sweetest toy poodle. We rescued him from a breeder who was going to put him down because he wasn’t show quality. He was about 3 months old and Marty had a wonderful life growing up and being spoiled by our now 24 year old granddaughter. After 16 years of love, Marty peacefully went to the Rainbow Bridge in August 2018 just a few weeks before Lia was born. Marty would have loved Lia and she would have loved Marty.
So I thought it was quite something to find a song with my name in the title to realize he had a dog named Martha and we had a dog named Marty, a name that has been my nickname to many!
Celebrating the Martha of your life in song. Cool! (I forgot about this tune!)
I didn’t remember it either Roy until I started searching. 🤣
That is so cool. The pictures of the dog is cute too.
I miss our sweet Marty, he was like a member of our family. Thanks for visiting Amanda.
