Song of the Day 2

Day 2 – Song with numbers in it

Yes, I’m doing a May CHALLENGE!!! I had a few songs in mind for Song of the Day 2 that had numbers in it but the first one that I thought of was Beechwood 4-5789. The genre was rock and roll, soul, doo-wop and R&B.

This song was a 1962 hit single for the Motown girl group, The Marvelettes on Motown’s Tamla subsidiary record label. In 1982 this song became a hit again when it was covered by the pop duo The Carpenters.

Some of you may not have even been born in the 60’s and haven’t heard of this song or even seen a dial phone. This is the kind of phone I remember from my early years. Can you picture them calling Beechwood 4-5789 on an old rotary dial phone?

I remember the rotary phones, We still have one in the basement, I want to go back to rotary actually I liked dialing the numbers……I had some wicked speed going there!! LOL! But I must admit, I missed out on Beechwood part of the phone”number” I never had words, but remember at times having letters as part of the number……WOW- we’re dating ourselves here!!

Old time memories for sure Pamela! My earliest memory is of the letters before the number too, we had EX but never know what it stood for!

We had these rotary phones when I was a kid, definitely fun to use them 🙂 though it was all just numbers that I had to dial

I remember when the push button phones came out after the rotary dial ones, my grandmother could never figure them out! Take me back to the good old days Vidya!

I had a dial up phone I would play with as a kid. I found it fascinating. I haven’t heard of the band you mentioned.
