Song of the Day 12
Song from your wedding day
We are up to Song of the Day 12 and the prompt is to write about a song from your wedding day. Even though my wedding was almost 53 years ago I can still hear my favorite wedding song, Ave Marie.
This song was composed by Franz Schubert in 1825 as a setting of seven songs from Walter Scott’s popular poem The Lady of the Lake. The song was later performed and recorded by many singers under the title “Ave Maria” which is the Latin name of the prayer Hail Mary. The opening words and refrain of Ellen’s song, namely “Ave Maria” (Latin for “Hail Mary”), may have led to the idea of adapting Schubert’s melody as a setting for the full text of the traditional Roman Catholic prayer “Ave Maria“. The Latin version of the “Ave Maria” is now so frequently used with Schubert’s melody that it has led to the misconception that he originally wrote the melody as a setting for the “Ave Maria”. Our wedding was July 29, 1967, almost 53 years ago and we had a recording playing our favorite song of our wedding day. Ave Maria was sung by the Italian singer Luciano Pavarotti with his powerful voice. This is my favorite singer of Ave Maria.
This is the Latin and English version of the Roman Catholic prayer of the Rosary. Do you have a favorite song from your wedding day?
July 29 1967 our day our favorite day our favorite song. We still play it lots; one our are granddaughter loves it and from when she started to talk always calls it papas song
Papa’s song!!! as Alex would always say when she heard it. Love this song and you Rich!
Beautiful wedding memories…I played that song on my violin at several weddings back in the day. One, in particular, comes to my memory, I was being accompanied by someone playing a Hammond Organ. The church was amazing and those pipes and the acoustic violin – – oh my…and Luciano Pavarotti, I could sit and listen to him sing all day long – regardless if I understood the lyrics or not.
Oh Nancy, I can hear the beautiful combination of the violin and organ! What a lovely memory to hold on to!
That is a beautiful song for a wedding! I love that you shared your wedding photos! So lovely! And congratulations of almost 53 years — that’s amazing!
Thanks Angie, our love keeps going and going!
Interesting choice of a wedding song!
When I say the rosary, this song always pops in my head Roy. When Alexandra was little and the song was playing in the truck, she always called it Papa’s song.
Martha, you look so beautiful!!
Thanks Vidya, Rich and I have made many wonderful memories….and many more to come.
Great post and photos. I am not married yet. I have been praying for my future husband since I was a young teenager. I know that God has someone special for me in my future.
That special someone will come around Amanda. Sometimes we have to wait for the right time and place! Hugs 🤗
