Silly Saturday Story
Today I’m sharing a silly Saturday story instead of silly Saturday photos. I like to listen to the oldie songs from the ’50’s and ’60’s. Just this morning I was driving to the drug store listening to the oldie music.
All of a sudden the song Wake up Little Susie, sung by the Everly Brothers started to play and it brought back a silly memory. This song could have been Rich’s and my theme song from after my Junior Prom in 1966.
I’ll always remember Rich pulling in my driveway with his brand new 1966 Dodge Coronet 500 convertible with the top down.
After the prom we went to a restaurant where they had a special “Prom” menu with hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken. When the waiter came to our table, Rich order two steak dinners. The waiter hesitated and quietly showed him the price, asking if he would rather order something else. Rich looked at him and said, “We’ll take the steak, my girl deserves the best.”
I had a wonderful time at my prom and when we pulled in the driveway, we sat and talked a bit. My mom and dad had left to go on a camping weekend but my grandparents lived with us and I saw the light on so I know I had to get inside soon. WELL…. WE BOTH ENDED UP FALLING ASLEEP and Rich woke me up saying it’s 4:00AM! I hurried inside but gramma wasn’t up yet so I figured I could just sneak upstairs for a few hours of sleep. I came out of the bathroom and there was gramma waiting to greet me and asked if it was too early for breakfast. She made pancakes and we sat and talked about what a great time I had and how I was home early but fell asleep in the car. She told me she knew, she was watching me the entire time! My gramma was the best. So many memories, whether photos or stories, I hope you enjoyed my Silly Saturday Story.
I love your story and photos, Martha. Not silly at all. I remember those years. I had no boyfriends in high school. No parties either. But at university I had parties to go to. My mother was a bit strict. Did not believe that we stayed up just to watch the sunrise. We did, a bunch of us, because it was the end of the school year and exams.
The days of our youth Lily, so many memories.
I love your ride down memory lane 🤩
The car is the bomb, and so are Rich and your Grandma! I am sure you did or would have done similar things for your granddaughter.
Wake up, little Suuuusie, wake up 🎼
Oh yes Tamara, I wonder what it will be like when Lia goes to the prom!
So many memories and amazing people in your life. Thank you for sharing with me. This was a beautiful post for a Saturday morning read. Congratulations on being a blogger for 10 years. That is incredible!
Thanks Chef Katrina, I sure have enjoyed my time blogging.
That made me tear up when you got to the part about how she knew the whole time and was watching you guys. Not a silly story at all. But how cool that you LIVED “Wake Up, Little Susie,” right down to the time you woke up!
Yes it is so cool Jeanine to live through a song!
Martha, what a beautiful silly Saturday story! How silly to fall asleep until 4– but maybe this was the beginning of you and Rich waking up and going for drives in the middle of the night? And a new set point for pancakes? Great story! Thanks for sharing it. <3
Yes this is definitely a song that brings back this memory every time I hear it Kebba.
What a sweet story. Sending you hugs from MD.
Thanks Amanda!
A silly Saturday is the best kind of Saturday to have. My Saturday was super silly. It actually snowed. Like, how rude! But silly. It can come back for Christmas. Until then, it needs to be gone!!! And I know that it will obey all of my commands! In a silly way, of course.
Snowing in April Alice!: I would say that silly for sure!
Martha, I wrote a comment on this story, but I was rushing, and I may not have hit “post”. This is such a great story! Yes, it was silly to fall asleep out there until 4 am. But your grandma was so loving and kind. And maybe this was a setup for your later habit of not sleeping at regular times, but going for drives. And a setup for your love of pancakes! What fantastic memories! <3
Every time I hear this song on the oldie station it brings back this memory Kebba.
