Sharing Something From The Past
For day 17 of the Ultimate Blog Challenge, the suggested topic is sharing something from the past. I decided to go back through my blogs that I wrote last year on January 17, 2016 and when I saw the first one, it brought back so many wonderful memories.
I wrote a blog about the beautiful Christening gown that my grandmother had made in 1907 for her seven children, the passed down to my mom for my sisters and me to wear. I then ended up with it for our two daughters to wear at their Christenings and then on to some of our grand children to wear.
Our oldest grandson was the first in the 4th generation to wear this beautiful Christening gown in 1987, it was 80 years old at that time and my hope is to have one of our future great grand children wear this heirloom gown that was made by my mother’s mom in 1907 for her first-born child. The gown is now 110 years old and just as beautiful as it was when my grandmother stitched it with love.
This is the blog I wrote last year about the Christening Gown Passed Down Through Generations
Just seeing things, no matter how small, sparks a wonderful memory that sharing something from the past is worth sharing again.

what a lovely tradition. My son came home in the outfit as all my uncles and three of my cousins and three of my grandparent’s great-grandchildren. It just so happens that after my son was born, eveyone thought that I should be the one to keep this garment. It was my grandfather who got it to bring my his first son Edward Chapman the 2nd home. Some day I hope to pass it on to my son.
What a wonderful memory you have also Brenda! That would make a great blog post, I’d love to see your heirloom! Thanks for sharing such a beautiful memory.
What beautiful treasures. I have 2 dresses that I wore when I was about 2, and I’m now 62. I doubt that my grandsons would have worn them. However, I knit the christening gown for my firstborn in 1979 and my grandmother made a long cape to wear over it. It was great because you could change the ribbon from pink to blue with no problem. My oldest (girl) now has it (and the only 2 grandkids for the moment) but I’m hoping that one of my sons will eventually use it as well.
My grandmother did the same with ribbons on the slip for the Christening gown Jane! After it was worn, she would wash it and put it away for the next one, adding new ribbons each time. How I love all the memories that every now and then just pop in my mind from days gone by. Thanks for visiting!
