Sharing Some Blogging Tips

For the beginning of the Ultimate Blog Challenge I’m sharing some g tips with you. These are a great refresher for “seasoned” bloggers and hopefully will help with any newbie bloggers. I use WordPress and these tips work for this platform but not sure about any others.

Control Z

The number one tip is useful if you ever make a mistake and hit the wrong key and you wipe out your entire blog that you are writing! As long as you haven’t typed any thing after your blog disappeared, just click the CTRL and the letter Z. Your content will magically appear!

Open Link in New Window

Have you read a blog with a link in it but when you click the link it opens to that link but the original article you were reading is now gone? You have to backspace to get back to the original blog and then you’ve lost the link. This is especially frustrating when opening a recipe. When adding a link to your blog, after you type in the address link and highlight it make sure you slide the bar to “open in new tab” Simple fix to keep your blog open and the link will open in a different tab.

Adding Eye Appealing Photos

Pictures are another tip I like to talk about. I love adding photographs and I mostly only use photos that myself or granddaughter have taken. I don’t use a fancy camera, just my Google Pixel 3 phone. I hardly ever use stock photos but there are a few good sites to find them. Pictures grab the reader’s interest, add eye appeal and seems to make them want to read more. When taking close ups of flowers or food I use the portrait mode and blur the background as this only focuses on the subject you are photographing.

This is a blog I wrote back in 2018 with more details and step by step instructions on this blogging tips. http://themarthareview.com/four-blogging-tips/

When I find new things I like to pass them on to others. Sharing some blogging tips have helped newbies and refreshed other bloggers in the past, I hope they help you too.

Lia started blogger at 8 months old and she now has a Friday Story Time blog you won't want to miss! Wonderful tips Martha. The link in new window, one I use all the time.

  2. Just a couple of hours ago I was thinking of how I was once a WordPress developer and enjoyed working on my WordPress website. I was watching a video and realized I’ve forgotten an awful lot since moving my site over to Heroic.

  3. Those are great tips! My favorite is to use colorful pictures. I try to do that, too, though I probably don’t do it enough.

Well…I DID NOT KNOW about the control Z thing. I almost always blog on my iPhone, anyway, but that is a great tidbit to tuck away.

I do like the “open in new window” option. Makes life so much easier on everyone!

I’ve just launched a new blog hop, so you’re welcome to come share your post(s) over there! https://www.ridgehavenhomestead.com/%e2%98%80%ef%b8%8fsunday-sunshine-blog-hop%e2%98%80%ef%b8%8f/

I’ll be sharing this also on the UBC page, but wanted to invite you!

Control Z has made my life so much easier at time Laurie and yes the open in new window makes things so much easier to go back to the original post! Thanks for the invite, I just joined (I think I did it right) but now have to figure out where and how to post! I love a challenge!

  5. Elisabetta says:

Thanks for the tips! I really appreciate you sharing also a previous post you wrote on the matter!

  6. Karen Sammer says:

Thanks for the helpful tips Martha. I’m happy to see you still participate in the UBC. I always enjoy reading your blog posts. Happy New Year!

  7. Laura Orsini says:

Great tips – especially the one about opening in a new window! Great pics are also essential for grabbing readers’ attention.

  8. Dominique says:

Wow! I have been at this for a long time now and I did not know that about control z! LOL How have I managed without this — this would have saved me many a frustrated scream as my entire post disappears into the ether… Thank you!

  9. Martha, thanks for the great tips! I use Control Z a lot when on my computer, but my iPhone doesn’t have that. However, if you shake the iPhone from side-to-side, your disappeared material will often come back. It’s a legit technique that I got from an iPhone forum. I’ve never used the Open in New Window feature and always wondered about it. I’ll try it!

    • Martha says:

I’m an Android person Kebba but I’ll definately tell my granddaughter about shaking her iPhone! I hope you try and like the open in new window feature, it’s cool because readers can open a new window but still have yuor blog open!

  11. Ronda Bowen says:

The control-z thing is super handy, and I use it often, particularly when I’m multitasking because I’m holding a baby and typing and she manages to hit the mousepad and…bam…everything’s gone!

  12. Lily Leung says:

I have to write down your first tip, Martha so I can remember. I’ve hit the wrong key more than a few times and everything disappeared.

  13. Tamara says:

Control Z has been a lifesaver many times over! 🙂

Thank you, for taking the time to share these tips with as I learned new things to implement on my own site and to share with Charlie who is Homeschooling again this year. Have a good day and a Blessed year.
