How I remember going to visit my aunt and uncle on their farm and playing with my cousins. My aunt was my mother’s sister and our family would take my grandparents up often so I got to be with my cousins, three boys and one girl. I remember watching my uncle bring the cows up the road from the pasture and get ready for milking. The fun times helping my aunt collect eggs from their chickens and looking through the barred window at the big scary work horse. Ah the good old days of way back when. My cousin Joy was about 9 months younger than me so we had good times together. Joy played the flute and piccolo and I played the flute and oboe. I would take my instruments with me and her and I would go to her room and practice together. Thinking back, it doesn’t seem that long ago but then I think again and realize this was over 60 years ago!
Fast forward to a few years ago and Joy messaged me saying her and her hubby would be in Myrtle Beach. How exciting to think that after all this time, I would be seeing my cousin 30 years later.
We met them at their hotel, chatted a bit then went to dinner. We picked up where we left off when we were young and talked about the ‘good old days’. It was so great to see Joy again and meet her husband.
This past late winter, Joy messaged again saying they would be coming back to the beach. They were staying at an ocean front hotel so hubby and I spend an afternoon with them. But that’s not the end of our visits. A few weeks ago Joy messaged saying they would be down in a few weeks.
This time, we had a grand old reunion. My little sister, her daughter and granddaughter along with my hubby and me all joined in with our mini reunion. We had a nice dinner at the Second Avenue Pier Restaurant and once again, went back in time with the memories.
Most of you know I do product reviews and I was reviewing a pair of pierced earrings so I brought them with me for my niece to try but her ear-piercing holes had closed up. After seeing Joy had pierced ears, I asked if I could “borrow” her ear to model the earrings. I got my photos of the earrings and thanks to Joy for lending my an ear.
After dinner, it was photo session time so we went outside and got some great photos of the cousins. It was such a great evening of being together once again, being silly, laughing and just being ourselves. Joy lives in Illinois and hopefully next time hubby and I travel to Indian we can take a side trip and visit Joy and her hubby on their turf.
Have you reconnected to any of your cousins after so many years and picked up right where you left off?

It was great that Nancy, Lori and Lily could join us this year. We’re going to surprise you and show up in your neck of the woods some day. We’re with Alex and having some great time with her as the days tick away for Wednesday surgery. Thanks for your prayers Joy!
Enjoyed your “cousin reunion”. In 2006, I met up with two cousins (twins) I hadn’t seen in thirty years. In turn, they had never seen my then-16 year old son. It was so much fun. I’ve seen both of them (separately) one time since. Time flies too quickly.
Oh that must have been a great reunion for you and your cousins, especially having them meet your son! Time just seem to sneak by us but it sure is great to go back in time with the memories. My cousin and I had a wonderful time together once again. Thanks for visiting Alana.
Isn’t it great connecting with family. I would like to see my cousins more often, and facebook is a great way to keep in touch. I was thrilled to visit a few this summer and travel is usually a requirement.
It’s super Doug. I actually reconnected with my cousin maybe 5 years or so ago on Facebook but it was so great to reconnect in person! Happy that you got to visit yours also.
