Saved By the Stick
A few years back, hubby and I were driving through the beautiful Nantahala National Forest in the western part of North Carolina. It was there that I was saved by the stick!
We love taking the slow drive, making stops along the way to view the scenery and water. One spot we always stop at is the Nantahala Gorge where the water is so relaxing to look at.
Stopping for photos
As we drive along the winding road, if I saw something photo worthy hubby would pull over and I go into action taking shots. There were some pretty wild flowers with a butterfly fluttering around so once again hubby pulled over and I snapped some pictures. It was here where I noticed the winding stream below. The bank wasn’t too steep so I carefully made the trek down. I was able to take some breathtaking photos before I was ready to head back to the truck where hubby was waiting for me. This is when I met my challenge and was saved by the stick.
As I looked up the bank, I realized it was much steeper looking up than it did walking down. I started the hike up the bank only to take one step forward and slide two steps back down. The grass was wet and while going down wasn’t a problem, going back up wasn’t going as planned. I couldn’t even see the truck because of the angle of the bank so hubby thought I was just having a grand old time snapping pictures.
Saved by the stick
After realizing I needed to find a way to keep me from sliding back down, I tried grabbing on to small bushes but they weren’t strong enough. I told myself I was determined to make it up the bank as I whispered to the butterfly I needed help. Butterflies are a sign of a loved one and it’s said that they carry messages back to heaven. The butterfly left and I continued to take my one step up but going back two. As I was sliding down, I happened to look to the right of me and there was a heavy stick just laying on the grassy bank! I grabbed it and I was able to poke it in the ground as I was climbing what now seemed to be a mountain and finally made it to the top!
Once I was safely back to the truck, I was looking over the beautiful walking stick and it was quite unique with the imprints of bugs formed into the stick.
My mom has answered my calls many times since she’s been in heaven and I believe the butterfly gave her my message and she directed me to the stick. I varnished my new walking stick that helped me climb the bank and it’s just another memory of mom when I see it.
Such beautiful pictures! You are a pro!
I enjoy taking unplanned photos Douglas, I always have my phone with me just for those special shots. Thanks for stopping by.
Beautiful photos Martha. I too look for signs from my mum and am convinced she answers my prayers at times. Since she passed we find silver 5 pence pieces in the most bizarre places around the house. When we find one…. or more…. even the grands will now say….. Grandma Maureens visited 🙂
I’m so glad you have the same experiences with your mom Dee! I’m the same way, she leaves pennies around in the most unusual places and at the right time too. She definitely answers my prayers thanks for sharing your story with me.
Beautiful pictures. I didn’t know that butterflies are said to carry messages to heaven. Although, a couple of years ago when one landed right on my chest I looked at it and said “hi” to my husband.
Whether it be butterflies or Cardinals, I truly believe they are both sending messages from our loved ones. I so happy you received a message from your dear husband in heaven. Thanks for visiting.
Maybe you should use it as a dowser to find water, too?
Seriously, though, glad you found your perfect walking stick.
It does look like one Roy! I use to dowse when we lived in upstate NY. I think I still have my rods in the shed.
I know my mother hears me, too, and helps in every way she can! So glad yours directed you to that stick. Those are beautiful pictures you took, too.
I’m so glad some people can relate, there are many that laugh and say it isn’t so. But I know different and I just keep quite. Thanks for visiting Jeanine.
She really can dowse! She found plentiful water for many homes What can’t she do? Ah 54 yrs together I really cannot answer that !!!
The good old dowsing days! I was happy to be able to find water for those who needed it. We’re a team Rich!
