S is for Salmon
S is for Salmon
I’ve been waiting to get to the letter S since this challenge started! I love salmon so it has to be S is for Salmon. Did you know that most salmons are are born in fresh water, migrate to the ocean, then return to fresh water to reproduce? There are many different species of salmon and some are restricted to fresh water through their lives.
There is nothing better than fresh, wild caught salmon. When I shop for salmon, I make sure it’s fresh, wild caught and not farm raised. Some say they can’t tell the difference, but even the color of farm raised is different. It’s lighter while wild caught is usually bright pink and even red.
When I pan cook salmon, all I do is add a little butter to the pan, put the salmon in skin side down and brown it. Then I flip it over to brown the other side and cover it for only a short time. If salmon is over cooked, it gets dry and loses the wonderful taste. While I’m cooking it, I squeeze fresh lemon over it and for the finale’ I melt butter, again squeezing lemon in it and pour over the salmon.
Talk about a delicious meal, I could eat just salmon and it would be filling enough. This is one of the meals I made with grilled salmon, crab meat salad and fried squash, onions and peppers.
The other way I prepare salmon is on the grill. Oh my, it’s so good! I grill it the same way as when I pan cook it, adding lemon while it’s grilling. I use a grill mat over the grill so the salmon doesn’t break apart and fall between the cracks. The salmon stays so juicy and super delicious.
This is the grilled salmon from the barbecue and I love to use my old McDonald plates and position it for the characters on the plate. Okay, so I play with my food while serving it!

Yes Yes & Yes, wild caught and simply done 🙂 Delicious. I always flip one last time for just a minute because I LOVE the crispy skin & so do my dogs!
The crispy skin is the BEST part Robin! Since I received the grill mats for review, I am now in love with grilling the salmon. It still has the grill marks and browns to perfection. I love it with just the lemon and butter, no other spices to camouflage the delicious taste. Thanks for stopping by!
I know Martha, aren’t grill mats the best!! I was shocked when I first used them and to actually get crispy skin & grill marks was amazing to me. We use our mats for all kinds of stuff but it is fantastic to be able to put things on the grill that we’ve never been able to before (especially fish). It’s so nice to also be able to throw veggies on and not worry about them falling through the grill – ever tried grilled broccoli? YUMMY!!!! Especially when it gets crispy 🙂
Grilled broccoli sounds delicious but never tried it Robin, that will definitely be something to grill! I love to grill peppers and onions but when I used aluminum foil, it just doesn’t hit it. The grill mats are fantastic since I don’t lose any of my meal! I’m still amazed at how the grill marks get on the meat with the grill mat and everything stays so juicy! WOW, making me hungry! LOL
I know, those things are like magic! I’m amazed every time I use them 🙂 Yes, you must try broccoli. I don’t care for it much raw but love it cooked – grilled is my absolute favorite and I can’t tell you how many got lost in the grill before using a mat. Since your hubby eats very healthy, I bet he would love it too. Let me know when you try it because I know you will soon, haha.
I love salmon. Good information about it.
Thanks Sandy, salmon is my favorite meal. glad you stopped by.
