Revamping your Window Treatments

Revamping Your Window Treatments

Have you ever had a window treatment that you either didn’t like the style or maybe you purchased draperies and they were too short but you loved them so you lived with them?  In our window treatment business, we see many dilemmas like this.  But have no fear, something can be done easily by revamping your window treatments and make them fit perfect.

What do you do when you purchase a ready made bed in a bag only to find the draperies are too short?  Well you could panic but there are others ways to remedy the problem.  Besides wanting to add to the drapery length, the client wanted more color in the room.

We designed and fabricated burgundy swags with bullion fringe on the bottom edge that we attached to the rod she already had for the panels.  Since the bed skirt was not being used, I recommended to use that to add to the length of the draperies.  There’s one thing I don’t like and that’s a seam where you can see where the fabric is pieced.  I usually come up with a way to camouflage the seam and give it a finished look.  This was an easy fix by adding the same bullion fringe as we put on the swags at the seam edge.  Adding burgundy tassel tie backs really set the window treatment off.  The other thing I did was to remove the small ruffle header above the rod pocket header to give it a more elegant look. Finish off the bed with a few burgundy pillows and there you have a perfect bed and window treatment completed with only a few minor changes.

We went to a client’s home that had a beautiful view from her family room window but the window treatment took away from the view.  She had four separate panels that were different sizes on a wood pole that wasn’t heavy enough so it was sagging.  This treatment actually needed to be scratched and we started over.

By adding a simply shaped top treatment with working draperies that we tied back when opened, framed her window and let her beautiful view be the focal point instead of it having a cut up look.  She was very pleased with the room having a more open look.

This was such a fun project. We created this bedroom set for a little girl and used five different colors of soft sheers that matched the spread fabric for the bed wall hanging. The pink top sheer looked great against the white walls.  By painting a piece of lattice, the look was very unique.  This was perfect for a four year old, but when she turned eleven, the little girl was ready for a change.

And change she got!!  The white walls were painted bubblegum pink and we flipped the sheer colors on the bed wall hanging to have the yellow against the pink walls.   There was really nothing to do other than painting and flipping the sheers to give this room a totally new look.

So if you have a room that has “problem” window treatments, before you think everything has to be totally redone, think again, it may just need a bit of revamping!
