Repurposed a Galvanized Bucket
My steady readers know I love coming up with ideas to reuse something that I have hanging around the house or yard. My latest project was when I repurposed a galvanized bucket that was hanging on the back fence just waiting to be turned into something useful after I saved it from the recycling center years ago.
Why not make a large flower pot?? But since the bucket is about 12″ deep I would need a lot of soil to fill it and that would be super heavy. So I came up with a plan.

First I drilled holes in the bottom of the galvanized bucket for the water to drain out. I had a stack of left over plastic flower pots waiting to be reused so I filled the bottom of large bucket with them and added pieces of pool noodles to fill in the edges. (Plastic milk cartons would work also) The next step was to come up with a cover over the pots to keep the soil in place. I pulled some extra cardboard boxes out of storage and cut them to fit the top of the pots. Next I covered that with garden soil. My large flower pot was not ready to plant!

I love going to Lowe’s Garden Center and visiting the poor wilted plants in the back corner. They look so pitiful and needing good homes. Most of the times they are marked down to $1.00 each but this time they had the colored flowers four in the container as well as the small purple leafed ones for $1.00! I got all these flowers for $6.00!

It took about a month for the flowers to fill out but I love how I repurposed a galvanized bucket into a beautiful flower pot at the front entrance of my house.
This is why I can’t throw anything away, I can always get it a new purpose.
