Repurpose the Christmas Tree for the Birds
Today starts another week for the Cornerstone Content Blog Challenge and the topic for day 14 is content that highlights lessons from failures. The failure was when our 4 month old puppy knocked down our Christmas tree but we learned we could repurpose the tree for the birds.
By the looks on Rusty’s face I think he’s saying “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to knock the tree over.” But on the bright side none of Lia’s handmade ornaments broke.
Of course this was the week after all the sales had been going on for black Friday and cyber Monday so the pickins’ were slim. Lia, Rich and I went to four store and found nothing. Our last stop was Lowe’s and it was so cold Lia wrapped her scarf around her face mask! After looking around we finally found a nice tree so off we went with our new Christmas tree. We get it all decorated and it looks beautiful. But we did make one addition to this tree, Alex loves purple so we added some purple beads and purple glittery snowflakes.
Rusty is careful when he curls up under the tree and he says he won’t knock this one over.
As we were getting ready to take the downed tree to the recycling center, I had an idea. Let’s take the top part and turn it into a tree feeding station for the birds! Rich secured it to the fence and we started decorating it.
You may have read Lia’s post she wrote last Friday about the homemade bird treats she made.
We had Lia’s pinecone and oyster shell treats, Lia picked some berries from the big tree in the yard f where the birds like to eat and we added them to our bird tree. After I took this picture of Lia on the ladder I told her she was up higher than our house!
Alexandra came up with the idea of the tree topper ice cream cone rolled in peanut butter and cereal and we even strung some apple chunks and hung them on the tree. As the finishing touch Rich added some roses for color. We haven’t been lucky enough to see the birds on it yet but they cleaned out one suet container and ate all the peanut butter and rice krispies from the pine cones and shells.
So what did we learn from the failure of our tree going down? We learned that we can repurpose the Christmas tree for the birds! I posted this picture on my FB and one of my readers said this should be the comment that Lia would say. “So do you think you could do any better?” 🤣 I think our tree bird feeding station is perfect and once again it was a family project.
What a great idea!! And the bird tree is so nicely decorated, too! That picture of Lia is adorable, and no, I doubt I could do it any better. 🙂
Thanks Jeanine, I love having a year round tree for the birds. Lia can decorate it year round with her homemade bird treats.
Oh I love this idea of a tree feeding station.Lia looks super happy
It’s perfect for us to watch our backyard feathered friends Amrita! Now Lia can hang her bird treats year round.
What a great idea.
We love watching the birds in the yard so this gives Lia a place to hang her bird treats year round Amanda!
Martha, well done! I am sure Rusty felt majorly guilty! But you ended up with fresh tree blessings both in the house and in the yard. The birds will love their new tree feeder!
Yes poor Rusty looked so sad Kebba but it all worked out great in the end! We all love watching the birds and Lia loves making bird trees. It’s a win win!
I love the whole idea of repurposing the tree after the dog’s accident! That is so cool and so creative! And a good place to place Lia’s bird treats!
It worked out perfectly Alice especially since we all love watching the birds and Lia enjoys making bird treats!
Martha, your indoor and outdoor trees are lovely.. You still have roses this time of year. Rusty looks so sorry in the one photo. And so comfy under the tree,
Thanks Brenda, yes the roses are still blooming however we are in a cold snap so not sure how much longer. Rusty loves sleeping under the tree and I think he was sorry he knocked it over by accident.
