Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day
Today is August 28, the day that is also known as Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day. This is the day that we remember our pets that are no longer with us. Pets become members of the family and when the pass on to the rainbow bridge they are never forgotten and their memories will live on. The day is celebrated as a way for people to share their memories of the pets that they have lost but will live forever in their hearts.
Today I’m sharing a blog I wrote back in August 2018 when we lost our beloved toy poodle. Marty was 16 years old when he peacefully crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge. We got him when he was about 5 months old and he was a loving companion to our 17 year old beautiful Sheltie. The two were inseparable until Shellie passed away peacefully in her sleep with Marty right beside her. http://themarthareview.com/memories-of-marty/
We have had many dogs in our live time but Shellie and Marty were the two that lived the longest and were loved so much. They are now at the Rainbow Bridge playing together and both are now pain free.
Do you have an animal that you are missing on Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day?
As an adult, I have not had this experience. I remember the loss of our family dog when I was in elementary school. It broke my heart. Many years passed before I could make room for another pet. Now I have 2 in my life and can’t imagine not having them around.
Our pets become family members and it’s hard when they pass Angel. But they will be waiting at the Rainbow Bridge for us one day.
Martha, I did not know what today was/is. Thank you! The heart-ripping side of having an animal family member is that, while they model unconditional love, they are gone in just a few years. I had a wondrous dog named Sunshine, a purebred Labradachs Retrievahund– a black lab head and a black dachshund body! He had all the vigor of a full-sized labrador. A very inspiring little fellow. Thanks for sharing yours. <3
OMG what an adorable dog Sunshine most have been. When we lose a pet, it’s like losing a family member but we have the memories to hold on to.
Hi Martha, Thank you for sharing about your beloved pups. I have not had any rainbow animals since I was a child. Living life as a busy adult in a big city the last twenty five years didn’t seem like the right life for a pet. Now that I have settled down my work life, and expanded my travel life, I am searching for the right travel companion pet. Sending lots of love and hugs. Jaime
You might just find a perfect pet that will help you when feeling down a bit. Animals have a way of showing so much love. Hope you find a perfect companion Jaime!
I miss my dog, Noodles.
I don’t think we ever get over losing a pet Amanda.
