Quick Trip to the Mountains
The days of the Ultimate Blog Challenge seem to by flying by this month! Maybe because I’m so busy with other things too but I’ve manage to write a blog every day so far and today we are on day 25. The suggested topic of the challenge today is to write about a time you took a trip. Now I’m sure for some, the trips will be to a far away place across the ocean or an exotic place on an island. But for me, I’m happy to take a quick trip to the mountains. It’s peaceful, quite, the scenery is beautiful and the short get-away is perfect to unwind from the hustle and bustle of the tourist town we live in.
Since today is also Wednesday, I’m combining some words with my trip, come on along with my family and me to a trip to the mountains!
*******Back in May, hubby and I along with our granddaughter and her sweetie loaded into the truck about 2:00 AM and headed to the Nantahala National Forest in Murphy, North Carolina. It’s only about a six-hour drive to get to a place in the middle of nowhere with nothing but the forest, the river and peaceful views. Along our drive, we stopped at the Nantahala Gorge and enjoyed watching the water gently flowing over the rocks. It was a beautiful sight to see the steam coming off the water.

We continued our journey to the hotel we stay at the Valley River Casino. There is a reason we stay at the casino, first we get complimentary rooms plus meals! Can’t beat that for a little get-away. There is so much food to choose from but my favorite is the toasted albacore tuna and cheese on the best home made bread ever from
Sandwich of Earl.
We actually don’t go on the gaming floor often but since we are there to go sightseeing, we have to make a trip (or two) down to see the sights of the slot machines. Again since we have free vouchers, we are playing with their dollars! This was the second trip for Alex and Stevie and they learned quick which machines were calling them and to take the money and run! LOL
*******Our rooms had an awesome view of the mountains, it’s so peaceful to look at the mountains and sky! Whether we looked out in the early morning with the rolling fog lifting off the mountain tops or in the middle of the day with the sun streaming over the majestic mountains, it is such a wonderful place to be. It’s a get-away that doesn’t need much planning, we can decide to head out on the spur of the moment, no passports required and only a tank of gas. Since rooms, food and vouchers are complimentary, all we have to do is get there and enjoy a few relaxing days. Then it’s back to reality with six lanes of traffic, tourists who don’t know which lane they want to be in, horns honking and not to mention all the golf carts piddling around heading to the beach and the mopeds clogging up traffic on the highways. But that’s life and when we head to the mountains all that is blocked out! Listen…….do you hear that??? The mountains are calling us back!!

Hi Marths, I like that kind of vacation too. Even when on a bigger adventure, it is nice to get away from the cities and find some time and space to reacquaint myself with nature.

When we started visiting Cherokee, we signed up for our players card and ever since we get comp rooms and food. When Murphy opened about an hour away, same thing. I love that area and it’s a perfect get-away for next to nothing. Thanks for stopping by Nona!
