Process for Creating a Minky
Today’s suggested topic for the Ultimate Blog Challenge is “a process that is followed whether it be a business, artist, teacher or even technology. This is a prefect topic for me to share my process for creating a Minky blanket.
To start with a little background about the Minky blanket, I created one last July for a baby shower gift for my soon to arrive new great granddaughter. When my granddaughter opened the gift, she immediately remarked how we should start creating Minky blankets and offer them to others. So that’s how Mama’s Minkys were born.
Minky Process
The process is simple, make our customers excited and happy with their new Minky blanket. We start by getting information as to favorite color, pattern and size for each customer. After we get this info, we start our search for that special, one of a kind fabric to melt their hearts. We love going on fabric searches and while some are a challenge, that’s the fun part!
We find a few options to show the customer and they can decide which they like best.
We have searched and found butterflies, elephants, princess fairies, firemen, dinosaurs, pigs and even camo fabric for special Minky blankets just to name a few. We find a few options to show the customer and they can decide which they like best.
I think the most exciting fabrics to locate were a unicorn print and pineapple print. I love the look of pure joy on the faces of these young ladies when they opened their packages.
After we have the print fabric, we coordinate it with the perfect color Minky fabric. What is Minky fabric you ask? It’s a super soft and cuddly faux fur fabric. It actually looks like little rosebud swirls which is perfect since my hubby grows the most gorgeous roses and people have commented on that when they see the finished product!
Once the fabric selection is made, it’s time to create a beautiful Minky blanket made with love! Our most popular size is the Baby blanket but we also create a Child size and the Adult size is gaining in popularity.
If someone is looking for a custom size, that’s no problem, all we need is the size they want, their fabric selection and we’re ready to share the love again with our soft and cuddly Minky blankets.
Did I say blankets? We also add pillows to make a wonderful gift set and even Minky playmats. Once again, the playmat creation came about when I made one as a surprise for my great granddaughter’s room.
I have always had creative juices in me and the process of our Minky blankets is just another way I can keep them flowing. But the ending process is something very special. My now 4 month old great granddaughter is our “official Minky quality control inspector” and while they are made with love, the are baby approved.
Oh my gosh! These are adorable! While you are clearly more creative than I am, I am not even going to attempt to create one of these. I am more of the kind of person to be the recipient of such an item, or I would just go out and buy one 🙂
Thanks Paul, I so enjoy the process and the giving of them is even more special! Even though it’s my newest business venture, I have gifted many and love the looks on their faces!
How wonderful, Martha! I love them. What a neat moment in the life of a mother-to-be.
We started creating them for babies but then adults wanted to be wrapped up cozy so we expanded Jeanine. The fabric is sooooo soft, just finished another one for a baby shower!
I think this is so cool. If I had a little child, I’d certainly want it to have one.
Maybe grandchildren someday Roy! Thanks for stopping by.
Those are very cute. I love the elephants! My toddler actually refuses regular bedding these days – only minky blankets will do. My littlest is still too young for her own blanket, and will likely eat the playmat, but she loves supervised minky snuggle.
I had seen “Minky blankets” advertised but never know that was the name of a fabric Daria! I’m so glad I made one for our great grandbaby, I’m hooked now!
Absolutely magnificent O did I say the Minkys are such a wonderful idea! !
It’s so much fun creating special one of a kind Minky blankets Rich! Maybe a Dodger one will be next!
These are great! My daughter found some Minky fabric for a bargain price and is going to try to make some blankets.
I love how soft the Minky fabric is Amy! It’s also fun to sew on!
