Planting Flowers for the Butterflies and Hummingbirds
Today was the day for planting flowers for the butterflies and hummingbirds that visit our backyard. I enjoy watching all the birds and butterflies that stop by to visit and take their pick from our many bird feeders.
Last year I recycled two old, rusty metal tables turning them into bird feeding stations and the birds loved all the many feeders we had. The directions on how I made these are in this blog:

We went to the garden shop and bought three hanging baskets that were on sale to hang around the edge of one of the tables. No we not only had the birds to watch but the butterflies on the flowers as well.
So today I recycled the flower pots from last year to plant wildflowers, hoping we’ll see more butterflies and maybe even hummingbirds this year. I filled the pots with potting soil, sprinkled the wildflower seeds around and covered them with a thin layer of soil.
After everything was finished, I lightely watered them and hook them around the table again. I think I did the planting at just the right time, we’ve had a light rain all afternoon! Hopefully I will see them sprouting in a few weeks, then buds and blooms in a few more!
This is just another way I love to save money by recycling and I enjoy being able to be creative and come up with cool ideas for DIY projects.

That all looks so neat, Martha! I cannot keep anything alive. I have even tried Miracle Gro, and still, eventually, withered and dead. 🙂
I do good with growing vegetables and flowers outside, but inside plants no so good. I’m looking forward to the seeds sprouting and hoping the birds don’t pick at them. I’ll post an update in a few weeks Jeanine!
you truly inspire with all the things you do, would love to see photos of the visitors too!
Thanks for a blog topic Vidya! I’ll post some of the visitors in our backyard! Thanks for stopping by.
