Photography Week
When I started the January UBC I decided to break up my blogs into weekly topics. Last week was Meal Ideas where I shared meals I made and then turned them into a multitude of left over meals. Thanks to our host Paul, I’m switching gears this week and it will be Photography Week! Yesterday I used the suggested topic, Time for a Contest and I posted photographs for my readers to suggest a caption. Today’s suggested topic is to share a photograph. So a week on photography is perfect especially since I received a new Nikon camera from my hubby for an early Christmas present.
A month before Christmas I was surprised with Nikon P1000 with a zoom lens from 24 mm up to 3000 mm. For the first few weeks I was only using the Auto mode where the camera automatically did the focusing and didn’t have to worry about the shutter speed or other settings. I just found a subject and snapped a picture! But after joining a Facebook group for the Nikon P1000 I met a wonderful member who has helped me with my learning curve by sharing so many pointers with me! She showed me on Zoom meetings how to change the camera settings that are factory set up to settings that are more user friendly. She also showed how I can get so much more out of my photographs if I use the Manual modes where I can control the shutter speed, lighting, and f-numbers. I have so much to learn between the camera, shooting and all the editing tools but I’m excited to learn while having fun taking photographs!
These photographs were a set of the first ones I took to get use to the zoom. I don’t remember the zoom lengths but the first one was at 28mm and you can see from how small the tower is that I was standing quite far away. I wasn’t trying to focus on color or anything else, just the zoom. They were also taken on the Automatic mode.
Share a Photograph
Today I’m sharing this little squirrel eating some berries. I shot this photograph in Manual mode where I played with the shutter speed and f-numbers.
These were taken at the same time with different shutter speeds. I like the last picture, he was eating away until you spotted me, then we had a starring contest!
I’m having fun learning even though it’s a challenge, I’ve been use to using by Google Pixel phone for photos for so long, this is now a new learning curve. But I’ll get it! Wait until you see my tomorrow’s photograph for Photography Week!
Great job learning and practicing with your new camera. I love that your doing a different challenge each week.
Thanks Amanda, this is the first time I’ve broken the challenge into weekly ones, I’m liking it.
Such a wonderful present! I look forward to seeing many more photos.
Thanks Angel, I’m loving my camera and working on getting good pictures.
Great photos! Especially of the little squirrel. 🙂
I thought it was cute the way he stopped eating and just starred at me Amanda.
Martha, your new camera– and its potential– are mouthwatering! I love your squirrel shots and am eager to see whatever else you post. <3
Thanks Kebba! I love photography wildlife and nature shoots. But my next venture may be portraits, I have Lia as a model for some great ideas.
Looks like you are really enjoying your new camera!
Yes Roy, I’m enjoying it so much. I’m looking forward to taking portraits next, I’m sure I can get Lia to pose!
I love the pictures of the squirrel. Can’t wait to see what you come up with next.
Thanks Cheryl, I’m looking forward to the spring flowers to get in bloom so I can get some close ups of those.
