Palm Sunday Crosses
Today is Palm Sunday, as a Roman Catholic it’s a reminder of the welcoming of Jesus into our hearts and of our willingness to follow him. Palm Sunday is the last Sunday in Lent and the Sunday before Easter. It’s the beginning of Holy Week, the most important week of the year for Christians.
I remember back when I met my husband and the first Palm Sunday I spent with him and his grandparents in 1966. Grandpa made the most beautiful crosses from the palms that were handed out during Mass. How I wish I had pictures of them, the were so beautiful!
Mine are far from the caliber of grandpa’s but I do enjoy making Palm Sunday crosses. I made the center one while waiting for Mass to begin.

To all who celebrate… a blessed Palm Sunday and Holy Week to all.
Thanks for sharing
And thanks for visiting Jean.
Those are very lovely. This reminds me of a post from another blog that I follow where the woman makes a butter lamb for Easter. It’s pretty intricate!
It’s a lovely activity to incorporate into the holiday!
Oh a butter lamb must be so special Dominique! Hope you had a wonderful Easter.
Your Palm Sunday cross looks pretty! Hope you and your family have a wonderful day!
Thanks Tamara. I’m so behind on my replies but we had a wonderful day with Lia and Alex!
Interesting pictures and crosses you have here. I liked the video too. I love the holy week, and in my religion, we call it Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. 🙂
Thank you Danwil. I’ve been making Palm Sunday crosses for years but none will match Rich’s grandfather’s work! I find it very interesting to learn about all the different religions.
Martha, I hope your Lent has been very meaningful. Thank you for sharing about palm crosses. One year, I went to a workshop for making 1000 or so for the (big) church. It was fun and meaningful. Yours at the center top is especially beautiful. I’m still trying to decide what I want to do for Easter–how about you?
WOW 1000 crosses?? I have all I can do to get 3 or 4 done but I do enjoy making them. We had a wonderful day – Lia, Alex and her friend came over for dinner and an egg hunt!
What beautiful Palm Sunday crosses! I love that this holiday is part of your story with Rich. I’ve never made a Palm Sunday cross, but I did used to collect a palm frond each year.
Every Palm Sunday memories of Rich’s grandfather come up, he was such a special grandfather and made the most awesome crosses.
Thank you for sharing your memories of Palm Sunday. It is a beautiful day to remember Jesus’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem and our own willingness to follow him.
I love the tradition of making palm crosses. It is a simple way to show our faith and to remember the events of Holy Week. Your cross is lovely, and I’m sure your grandpa would be proud of you. My grandfather was also one who had a strong tradition of following the Catholic faith, and expected us all to do the same. He even played the organ for the church. Thank you for prompting these memories.
I hope you have a blessed Palm Sunday and Holy Week.
I love the memories that come with Palm Sunday Julie. I’m glad my blog brought back memories for you also, I love hearing the organ play at church! I’m late at my replies but hoping your Holy Week was blessed as well.
The Palm Sunday cross you made is beautiful! Loved this look into this occasion ..
Thanks Vidya, they always bring back memories of Rich’s grandfather and the crosses he made.
What a pretty cross. I hope you and your family have a great week. 🙂
Thank you Amanda!
Beautiful crosses and I can’t wait to show it to Charlie. I know he will want to try and make one in his Homeschool Art Class. Have a wonderful week.
That would be a great project for home school Glenda.
