Paint Chip Scavenger Hunt
Today is Day 20 of the Cornerstone Content Blog Challenge and the topic is something that ignites an idea. I have the perfect story about a paint chip scavenger hunt!
I got this idea from one of my FaceBook friends when she sent me information on a Paint Chip Hike. The idea of this is to get out into nature, enjoy the surroundings and look at all the colors. It’s perfect for a long hike or just a short stroll through a park. You pick up paint chip cards at a paint store and then try to find all the colors while on your hike. The only thing that probably shouldn’t be done now during Covid is to return the paint chips.
I took this concept and turned it into a scavenger hunt for Lia’s birthday party. I picked ten different colors, punched a hole in the top center and held them together with a bread tie! Each child and adult at the party joined it and it was so much fun. The little ones were only 2 years old but they did great at find colors to match. The hunt is also great for teaching colors to little ones.
Most of the colors I picked were easily found in Lia’s garden and watching everyone, young and old run around checking the colors was so much fun!
After finding an item in most scavenger hunts have you bring it back to see who won. Why I did was give each participant a pen along with the chip cards so they could write what they found since we don’t want to disturb beautiful nature.
At the end of the scavenger hunt everyone was comparing what they found to match up with the paint chip. I would say the paint chip scavenger hunt at Lia’s 2nd birthday party made quite a hit! As a surprise for all who entered I gave everyone a prize! This was a fun why to end Lia’s party and we’re looking forward to taking the same paint chip cards on a hike to see what we can find.
So I think the paint chip hike was something that ignited my idea of turning it into a scavenger hunt! How cool would it be to have a neighborhood get together and do this larger scale. Instead of bringing an item back or writing it in the chip, have everyone take pictures! That’s what we will do on our paint chip hike.
What a neat idea! I think that would be a great idea for a kid’s party because it’s a way to make nature fun.
Yes that’s why I like it Jeanine. There is so much color in nature, we are planning a nature hike soon and will take our Paint Chip Cards.
That sounds like fun! It would be a great game for little ones to learn their colors too.
That’s what I was thinking too Amanda. Lia loves colors and she flips through the paint chips naming the all!
Oh, what a fun activity. I love color and nature so I think that I would really enjoy that. Maybe I would run such an activity in the summer when the gardens are very colorful.
It certainly was fun Alice! Let me know if you plan a hunt!
What a great idea, I need to do this with my Grands!
It was so much fun Nadya! Hope you grands enjoy it.
