Over One Thousand Dollars

It’s Friday Story Time by Lia and and since I joined the Alzeimer’s Fundraiser in mid June, I have received over one thousand dollars in donations from my friends! I am participating in honor and memory of my great, great grandmother and also my sweet neighbor Ruthie who passed away from Alzheimer’s just a few weeks ago.

When mommy and ma showed me the information about this fundraiser, one of the categories was baking so I knew I was in! I love baking and I had Lia’s Sunshine Bakery fundraiser in our neighborhood. Within a few hours all my brownies, cookies and muffins were gone! I received $155.00 in donations and another $125.00 for “special orders” from neighbors who wanted more! Ma even made labels for the containers for the special orders.

I even had an article written about me spreading sunshine in the South Carolina Alzheimer’s Chapter website!

I’m like ma, I love a challenge! I started with a $500.00 goal and surpassed that then raised it to $750.00. I went passed that and now I’m up to $1020.00 in donations for my Lia’s Sunshine Bakery team! But now I’m working on another challenge……to reach the $1600.00 goal to become a Solstice Champion of the Alzheimer’s Fundraiser.

LOOK AT MY UPDATED DONATIONS TOTAL!! There are just 25 days left to qualify to become a Solstice Champion and I’ve been told I may be the youngest one at 3 1/2 years old! So far thanks to all my great friends, I have collected $1020.00 and only needs $580.00 more!! Can I do it? With everyone’s help I think I can! Ma thinks I can too! I’m planning another “special order” sale for donations and I also have made some Minky blankets that all proceeds will go to my total.

I have three ways that people have been donating. One is through the QR CODE that mommy made for people to scan. Another is through Alzheimer’s Fundraiser page: http://act.alz.org/goto/LIA or people can use my Facebook link: https://www.facebook.com/donate/339982441572022/ You can also read all my updated Facebook posts about how I’m doing on the fundraiser through this link. Again, I want to thank all my wonderful friends who helped with their donations so hopefully a cure can be found for Alzheimer’s so my mommy and even me won’t ever have to worry about this disease.

You can visit A Day in Lia’s Shoes to catch up on my past blogs about my shopping, baking, tasting and preparing for my fundraiser bake sale! Hope you all have a great weeekend, I’ll be back next week for another Friday Story Time by Lia!

My mom had Alzheimers. It is a terrible disease to watch. The person you love just sort of disappears. And you’re left, wondering what happened. I look forward to the day that Alzheimers is gone forever. Thank you for your great big heart, Lia, and for the wonderful work that you did with the fundraiser!

    • Martha says:

Thank you Alice, while I didn’t know my great great grandmother, ma has told me what a wonderful mom she was. I hope Alzheimer’s is gone when my mommy gets older. I’m sorry that your mom had it also, it’s so sad.

Lia, I take off my hat to you!
Unfortunately I live too far away so I can’t visit you at your bake sale, but guess what, my credit card can be used internationally, so I sent some money. I am confident you will reach your goal of becoming the youngest Solstice Champion – you sure deserve it!
    Hugs to you and Ma!
