Our Backyard Visitors
The other day I wrote a blog about starting some flowers from seeds in flower pots leftover from last year for the butterflies and birds. I like to recycle to save money and save the landfill. This is the blog I wrote: http://themarthareview.com/planting-flowers-for-the-butterflies-and-hummingbirds/ A few of my readers mentioned they would enjoy seeing our backyard visitors in our yard, so today I am sharing some of them with you. I love watching the birds and wildlife and I hope you enjoy the tour.
I love when the blue birds come visit and start setting up housekeeping. It’s fun to watch both the male and female take turns collecting “bedding” for their new home.
The male blue bird checked out the house, both outside and inside then called the female over to check it out. It’s so fun to watch these birds set up housekeeping!
It’s been said that when a cardinal visits, it’s a sign that a loved one is looking over you from heaven. When I see one, I know it was sent down from my mom in heaven. I was able to get this not so good picture of a beautiful male cardinal in front of mom’s memorial garden.
It’s hard to get a picture of our hummingbirds, they are so quick to come up to the feeder, eat a bit without stopping their little wings and off they go. I was lucky to get a few fairly good pictures.
A few years ago in early spring, I saw a beautiful and colorful bird sitting in the tree by our fence. I had never seen such a colorful bird and I thought it may have been a tame bird that escaped from his cage. I was able to snap a few pictures and then I posted a picture on Facebook asking if anyone know what it was. I found out it was a Painting Bunting that was on the way north after spending the winter in Florida. I had never seen one before and I’ve never seen one again. I did read that they frequent a state park a bit south of our house.
Besides birds, we also have other backyard visitors. One evening I looked outside and saw a fox walking along our fence. He wasn’t bothering anyone so I waiting until he left to put our pup outside!
We have a trail cam and it’s fun to see what has visited us in the night. When I looked at the first picture, I saw the three raccoons, but after checking again, I noticed the three pair of eyes on the fence! Two are together and if you look to the right side near the end of the fence, you can see another pair! It looks like the one raccoon on the ground is telling the ones on the fence that the coast is clear and come on down!
Have you ever seen an acrobatic raccoon? I snapped this picture when I noticed the raccoon trying to get into the bird seed. The try so hard to get into the bird feeders!
Of course no back yard would be complete without a little bunny rabbit hopping around eating the clover. Every year we have a little bunny family and it’s fun to watch them grow.
We have quite a few bodies of water around our home plus the intercoastal waterway so every now and then we have ducks fly in to say hi. They just wander around the yard for a bit, then they fly off to the wild blue yonder!
Well these are some of the birds and wildlife that visit our backyard. We have many more varieties and it’s fun and relaxing to watch them come and go. They know we always have more than enough food in our ten or so bird feeders! I hope you have enjoyed visiting our “backyard wildlife zoo”!
