Origami Mobile
This is a quick and easy origami mobile I made from an old potato masher.
My now 21 year old grandson has been making origami cranes since he’s been 4 or 5 years old. When he worked with us at that age, he would start folding paper and making all different sizes of his cranes.
Fast forward to last Christmas when Zachary made me an entire family of cranes. I had them sitting on the TV stand until I came up with the idea to turn them into an origami mobile.
When thinking about making the origami mobile, I went through my stash of things I save “in case I can use them later” box. The first thing that I pulled out was my grandmother’s old potato masher. Doesn’t every one save things like this?
I used blue braided fishing line and carefully poked a needle in the center of each crane and pulled the fishing line through. I made them different lengths and tied them around the holes in the potato masher.
It was that simple, now I have the origami cranes floating around the air instead of sitting around on the TV stand and my grandmother’s potato masher was put to good use.
Do you have a collection of small items you are looking to display in a different way? I collect angels of all sizes and this is how I displayed some of my smaller ones. Again using a potato masher, I attached ribbons to the angels and hung from the holes. I love coming up with creative ways to repurpose things not being used any more.
Interesting idea of displaying the cranes. I’m not creative enough to think of using kitchen utensils outside of their original purpose.
Thanks Camilla, I love coming up with ideas outside of the box!
How fun! What a great idea!
Thanks Jace, my “out of the box” brain! I love coming up with other ideas for useless items.
that is such an inventive way to make a origami and those paper cranes your grandson made are perfect.
Thanks Vidya, we have some creative grandchildren and I love to display all their wonderful work.
I love how pretty the pictures are. 🙂
Thanks Amanda, I love the origami my grandson does.
Innovative! I would learn how to make origami one day! That’s a promise to myself.
I have never tried them ither Bing, Zachary taught himself when he started making them. Maybe I’ll give it a try also!
So creative
A great way to display Zachary’s beautiful cranes Rich!
