Organize Without Spending Money
This isn’t about coupons or deals but it is a way to save money in the long run.
I have always been one to save everything, thinking that some day it will come in handy. I don’t know it it’s being frugal or just a hoarder. But if I need something for storage, I usually have something I can use instead of going out spending money.
The other day I decided to organize the master bath closet and gosh did it need it! I can’t even show you the before picture, it’s too disturbing! LOL
I headed up stairs with some plastic storage bins and empty coffee containers. You probably wonder why the coffee containers, but you’ll see why shortly.
I started cleaning the bathroom closet one shelf at a time, tossing so many out dated items in the trash. I came across a brand new can of Edge Shaving Cream and since it was new I figured it would still be useable. There was a small rust spot on the bottom, so I tried to pick it of and the shave cream came squirting out all over me and the floor. That was the humorous part of my project.
Back to organizing, I had a storage bin for all the different toiletries. It’s easy to keep everything neatly organized if in a bin plus you also know how much on each thing you have. The coffee canisters you ask? The red one is for all the tubes of toothpaste, all neatly stored. The other one is for hairspray, gel, de-tangler. It’s hard to keep things upright on the wire shelves so that is why I used the bins and canisters. Everything that I had, was recycled from something else so it didn’t cost me anything.
This is what my closet looks like after everything is neatly organized. I have a large box to donate to Helping Hands and another box of shampoo, soaps, and toiletries from hotel stays that we will take to the homeless shelter.
As much as I love to find a good shopping deal to save money, the best way to save is don’t buy things unless you need them. Even if the price is good, there is no need to get it to just store it.
But I also made money cleaning the closet! I found a box with old money, not sure what it was doing in the bathroom, but was fun remembering we had it.
So when you plan your next organizing project, don’t say you can’t do it because you don’t have the money for storage containers, think outside the box and turn what you have laying around into something useful!
It is clean out, organize and donate weekend here too! Shaving cream can be dangerous 🙂
I am not the best at cleaning, I procrastinate too much. LOL But once I set my mind to it, I do it. Hope you got a lot done on your organizing Savvy Age!
I wish I could find an old box with money in it somewhere. Maybe organising my spare bedroom would reveal some long-forgotten gem!
LOL, I have know idea how or why I would put the money box in the bathroom Bill. Let me know what you find in your spare room.
Love the money find 🙂
That was exciting to find Andria. Funny thing, I don’t even remember putting it there. Thanks for stopping by.
I reused old containers all the time.
So do I Brenda, it’s a great way to save the landfill plus money! I’m so glad the coffee containers are now the plastic and square in shape. No worry about rust and they fit better than the round coffee cans. Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend.
This is great advice. I use all sorts of different containers to use as storage. I have baskets I picked up free in the bathroom. Plus a couple fabric folding bins.
I am still trying to figure how to organize under the kitchen sink.
The kitchen sink is a different story Sandy! Mine needs a total revamping. I saw where someone stretched a spring tension rod around to hang the spray bottles. I did paint a few heavy cardboard boxes and made shelves for under the downstairs bathroom sink. I’ll work on the kitchen one next! Thanks for visiting and have a great day.
