One Year Ago Today
One year ago today was the day our 20-year-old granddaughter had a long, grueling 12 hour surgery on her tiny body to remove a tumor in her chest that had infiltrated into her spine and was compressing her spinal cord.
May 2016 when the tumor was first discovered until surgery on November 2, 2016 were the longest 6 months that you can imagine. Rich and I went to Ohio to be with her for every surgeon appointment, consultations and lived at the hospital during her surgery and recovery. With all the prayers, prayer chains, a beautiful prayer quilt made for her from a special friend’s church group and concerns from so many of our friends and family, Alexandra was never alone in her battle. I never doubted God wouldn’t be with her the entire way plus with the surgeons as He guided their hands through the delicate surgery of entangling the web of nerves around her spinal cord.
This year has been a year of healing for Alexandra and throughout the 6 months before the surgery, the day of the surgery and her recovery in ICU to her continued healing, I’m thankful for all our family and friends that continue to prayer and wish her well. This is a prayer that was sent to Alex just before her surgery from a dear friend. Alex is such a loving young woman, strong-willed and has had so much determination throughout this ordeal and her healing.
Since this is a new year from when Alexandra had her surgery, my wish is she will continue to heal and have the best life ever.
These are links to the blogs I wrote following her journey from the diagnosis of her tumor, her surgery and her amazing team of surgeons.

Loved hearing about the aftermath!
Thanks Roy, Alex is a fighter and working hard to get her muscles and nerves built back up.
Very glad she’s doing better post-surgery…
Thanks Priscilla, it was a long recovery that isn’t done yet, but she’s a trooper and never complains!
I can only imagine what went through your minds and hearts from the time you knew the surgery would happen until it was successfully completed. I’m glad you were surrounded by the love and prayers of God’s people. That makes a world of difference in our healing.
The six months before the surgery were so scary and full of wonder especially once we found out how it had grown into her spinal column. During surgery, it was also found that it had grown into her shoulder so need extensive work and time to cut it from nerves and muscles. Her surgeons were amazing and I know God had a big hand in helping to guide them. We would have never be able to cope without all the prayers from so many. Thanks for stopping by Barbara, on to a much better year.
