No More Pie

No More Pie

After what happened last week, I have decided no more pie for me!  No, I’m not taking about the kind of pie you eat, although since I’ve been on my healthy eating plan, I haven’t had any of that kind of pie either.  I’m talking about the Android 9 – Pie update to their phones.

Some of the new features listed are : Adaptive battery and brightness, simpler ways to navigate your phone, recommended apps and actions based on your context and new security and privacy features.

Well my Google Pixel XL phone updated to Pie operating system and it was terrible. The battery drained to just about nothing within minutes, the phone heated up like a furnace and apps kept shutting down.  My Google Pixel XL was only about a year old so I stopped at Verizon Thursday. They checked and found there was definitely a problem with the upgrade. I was told it’s a Beta and after reading some of the Google sites, many people were having the same issues as I was.  Verizon told me they would overnight a new phone and Friday I had my new phone!

My phone arrived Friday but when I opened the package it wasn’t the same Google Pixel XL I had, they upgraded it to the Pixel Plus XL. 😃 It has the Oreo operating system and as soon as I turned it on, a message came across the screen telling me a system upgrade to Pie was available. I clicked that off immediately and will stick to the Oreo.  (I actually could go for a few Oreo cookies and cold milk about now, but too much sugar so I’ll forget that idea and get back to my new phone.) The one thing I loved about my Pixel was the camera, the photos were crystal clear and I could get great closeups.  I like this because I love taking pictures of nature, my hubby’s beautiful roses and of course my new great grand baby.

WOW I thought the camera on my original Pixel was great but the one on the Pixel Plus is SUPER GREAT! I took a regular shot of a rose, then zoomed in part way. Look at how the rose petals look when I zoomed in even more!

A few weeks ago I took a picture of my great-granddaughter with her precious little hand wrapped around great grandpapa’s weathered finger.  I took another picture similar to that one yesterday with the new phone and what a difference on the Pixel 2 from the original Pixel! Every little lines on Lia’s fingers show up and you can even see the white on her fingertips where she’s holding on so tight.

I was upset when I had the problems with Pie on my Pixel but what a great surprise when I received the upgraded Pixel 2.  The screen is about an inch longer but since the overall phone size is about the same size, it still fits in my phone case.  I’m glad about that because I just got it!!There are other upgrades to this phone but I haven’t even checked them all out, that will be a weekend project for me.

My granddaughter did some awesome editing with the upgraded photo editing and she changed Lia’s hand into black and white. The photo is so clear! The Pixel 3 is out and I can’t imagine the photo quality being any better.  So as far as Pie goes, there will be no more pie for me unless I know there will not be any problems.

Hi Glenda, great seeing you again! I hope others don’t have the same problem I did but hopefully my blog will help them. My hubby has the most beautiful roses usually up until January! Been a busy month but think about you and Charlie all the time! Hugs to all!

  2. I’m a Hydrox guy myself…
But, now that I have traded in my Android tablet for a Surface, I’m not too into the Android updates.
Glad you got a better deal for your troubles, though!

Ah, I forgot about Hydrox Roy! I’m not updating any more unless I can get a guarantee it won’t mess up my phone. But yes, it worked out good with the upgraded phone. Thanks for stopping by with your Hydrox, hope you had milk with them.

I wondered if the title would throw some readers off Stephie! What started as a disaster with my old phone turned into a great deal by getting a better model! But no Pie on my new phone, I’ll stick to the cookies! LOL
