Never Before Seen
I’m using today’s suggested UBC topic for my blog. I love taking and sharing photos and the topic today is to share favorite photos or photos from your latest traveling adventure. I posted a blog last week about hubby’s and my little sneak away and today I’m sharing some never before seen photos of our trip!
On our second day of our sneak away we took a drive through the Nantalaha National Forest. We started down the highway going towards the mountain road. There are lots of pull offs along the winding mountain road where we can stop and which the kayaks work their way through the river.
But before we got to the mountain road we went around the bend of the four lane highway and saw both lanes in the direction we were going were blocked by police and there was no traffic heading towards us. Slowly the police escorted the traffic and around the other bend we found out way.
There was an airplane that had landed in the center of the highway! They were loading it on a truck and slowly drove it to the next pull off. There were small tree limbs and leaves in the center of the highway and I came to my own conclusion as to what happened. I figured the plane had some sort of mechanical problem and needed to land before it got to the airport a few miles away so as it successfully landed on the highway clipping the top of the trees. Luckily there was no visible damage to the plane and no ambulance so we’re assuming the pilot was okay. He did a great job of landing and it didn’t interfere with any vehicles on the road.
On the way back from our Nantahala drive the plane had been all tied down and probably waiting for it to be checked out.
We enjoyed our little sneak away and when we arrived back home I noticed a picture never before seen. Rich snapped this as I was sitting on our balcony of the hotel. It’s proof that I did sit and relax!
Beautiful photos and it looks like you had a lot of fun!
Thanks Kate, I love taking photos where ever we go, it gives me great blog ideas! We had a blast doing nothing!
Whoa, that pilot was lucky! How many National Parks (or Forests for that matter) come with a four lane highway to land on?
Nice pictures of your trip, thank you for taking us with you!
Probably not many Tamara! This was actually on the way to the park, a few miles down the road it turned into a narrow winding two lanes along the river. Yes he was very lucky.
Looks like an interesting place for a trip. I have mostly stuck to the Virginia version of the trail.
This was a short but well needed sneak away Roy. It’s actually the first that Rich and I snuck away by ourselves! LOL I could sit on the riverbank and just watch the wildlife, it’s so peaceful.
Wow, what a thing to see. Glad everyone seemed to be ok. And now you have a story to tell 🙂 Thanks for sharing.
It certainly was soemthing we never thought we would see Samantha. I’m happy there were no injuries to the pilot or other drivers.
Hey Martha, I love these unexpected interruptions to the mundanity of life. They add spice and pizzazz to living.
It certainly gave us something to talk about Florence and a great blog topic! That’s why I love taking so many photos, I can always turn them into a blog!
Great story and pictures Martha. Especially the picture of you relaxing. Thanks Rich. Martha, you were probably reviewing your pictures of the day or commenting on our blog posts. 😉
Blog on!
Thanks Doug! That’s exactly what I was doing, checking my photos to get blog ideas! Rich took that picture to prove that I really did relax!
That’s a fun little adventure! Thank goodness everyone was okay.
It sure was something we’ve never seen before Maria. I’m just so glad there were no injuries!
Martha, seeing a plane on a highway is the experience of a lifetime– for me– and I wasn’t even there! I laughed and laughed, in surprise. Please don’t tell the pilot I was laughing. Your mountainscape images are ethereal! It looks like the mountains are exhaling, misting upwards. Stunning. You really have an eye for photography. <3
I saw the plane and yelled to Rich there is a plane on the road. At first he wasn’t sure what I was talking about. It wasn’t funny but it was! I love the mountains and love taking photos of them, when I grow up I want to become a photographer! LOL
I enjoyed reading your post and reviewing your photos! I learned about your site during #blogboost
Thank you for sharing a lighthearted story!
