National Take a Chance Day
Today is National Take a Chance Day and these are some of the suggestions they list to do according to National Calendar Day website.
- Celebrate your goals or dreams by taking a chance and getting started today!
- Share a time you took a chance and it paid off.
- Share your goals and how you’re going to achieve them.
- Share on social media using #NationalTakeAChanceDay
Here are some of my goals and how I’m going to achieve them. Last week I posted a blog about how I de-cluttered and reorganized the downstairs half bath and the pantry. Once it was completed I was so excited that I was able to achieve this in both rooms. I like to start out either in small areas or section off a larger room since I can accomplish much more that way. Since today is National Take a Chance Day, I decided to reorganize the family room. It all started because of a beautiful Peace Lily I received and wanted to find the perfect spot for it. (But I actually did this yesterday when I read about today’s National day!)
First let me show you what I was up against. I couldn’t find a “de-cluttered” picture of the family room but this one popped up of Lia’s birthday last August. We gave her a Barbie Doll House and because of the size, we put it next to the TV instead of in her playroom since her Princess room was filled to capacity. LOL
A few weeks ago Lia decided to let me put her kitchen in the garage sale. She hasn’t used it much since she was tiny and now that she has full reign of our kitchen she really could use the space for something else. It was the perfect spot to move her doll house to and Lia agreed!
Now with the doll house in Lia’s playroom, I had room to move things around more. I had my “couch office” and laptop that had to go so I moved those out of the way for the time being. I then move Lia’s organ to the left side, pushed the sofa down and put the plant in the other corner. Everything was going just as I hoped it would. My son-in-law moved the chair when he was down a few weeks ago and I liked it there much better because I can sit and look at our gardens and it opened the room up. Don’t mind Snowball, he drags his blanket around like a little child and when he finds a comfortable spot he snuggles.
I love where the plant is now. Here’s a tip for you, I placed a puppy pad on top of our wooden Harley Davidson cube and then used a silicone baking pan to set the flower pot in to keep any water from draining on the top of the cube. The puppy pad soaks up any water that may drip when I’m watering the plant.
Now are you wondering about my “couch office” and where that will end up? We had a desktop computer that was only used occasionally for Lia’s games but since school she hardly plays them anymore. So I clean everything off the computer desk and used that for my laptop. I have one problem, when I start a project I need to finish it that day. The totes are temporary until I can find a small two drawer wooden unit to replace them. I plan to check around and maybe even Good Will will have something the perfect size. For now the totes work and I was able to set up my new computer area.
My last little organization project was this hall table that was actually a catch all. We moved the clock there when we got a new coo-coo clock but it didn’t really need to be there. So everything went off the table and I started with a clean top adding the flag I received from the Army representatives, the bullet casings from the 21 gun salute and this beautiful poem.
Today I’m celebrating my goals that I had planned but not sure when they would get done. I think a big part of achieving my goals was seeing that it was National Take a Chance Day and I needed to fulfill my goals. A little at a time but I’ll get everything in order.
Of course I had no idea today is National Take a Chance Day, I didn’t even know it existed at all. I am at work today, and hubby left for an overnight business day. I told Colin he was allowed to invite a small number of friends to watch game 4 of this season hockey playoff finals at our house. How’s that for taking a chance..?
Good luck with your projects, I am confident you’ll tackle them in no time! I have to admit, I love Lia’s “birthday room” the way it was!
Oh I like your take a chance day Tamara! Hope it went well with the boys!
Martha, this is so inspiring! My home is in desperate need of decluttering and my husband and I are just finding it so overwhelming. I had missed your earlier blog on this so I’m going to check that out too. How precious is Snowball?! I love that her carries around his blanket and snuggles up wherever he feels is a good spot in that moment. Thanks for sharing this!
When it’s overwhelming, you need to start in a small area Kimberly. Do one cupboard or drawer in the kitchen or a small bathroom and it is is much easier and full filling to see an area completed.
I love it! National Take A Chance Day – It really brings up soooooo many possibilities. Thank you for that
Yes it does Linda, hope you took a chance.
Martha, I like having take a chance day. I’m going to take a chance. I’m envisioning an uncluttered home sweet home. Love all your photos. Beautiful Peace Lily.
Sounds good Lily, hope you get some done. I’ve been busy decluttering and will have a progress report next UBC.
You did a lot of work Martha.I tool a chance at trying UBC and look how far we came .
That’s a good thing Amrita and I’m so glad you did!
You got a lot of work dome Martha. The amount of decluttering is prizeworthy.
Thanks Amrita, what until you see my progress report the next UBC.
You managed to get a lot accomplished! I have been decluttering and filling up an empty bedroom for a garage sale that we are finally having this Saturday. It will feel good to get all that stuff somewhere else! I love your peace lily — I still have the one from my mother-in-law’s funeral last March — it still looks wonderful.
I have to keep busy and this is a good way to do it Angie.
Martha, what wonderful progress! And the peace plant is beautiful! Now Friday is National Get Organized Day, and I’m hoping to get a lot done. (Today I did paperwork.) Keep it up! Can’t wait to see what’s next for you! Love and hugs–
I’m chipping away room by room Kebba, will have a repot come the July UBC!
