NATIONAL SIBLINGS DAY
Did you know today is National Siblings Day? I was reading another blog and that’s how I found this out. I thought it was interesting to learn that the blogger was the middle sibling and her younger sister was Nancy. That’s the same as me, I’m the middle sibling and my younger sister is Nancy too!
I have two sisters with me stuck in the middle. My older sister is 3 years older than I am and for the longest time we were a family of two siblings. When I was ten years old, my mom had severe pains and thought it was her appendix so my dad took her to the hospital. A few days later she came home with my little sister! Since mom was older and going “through the change”, she never realized she was carrying a little love package.
So I have two siblings, one is three years old and one is ten years younger. My older sister was always right, Anne would tell my mom something and it was gospel, even though I knew different. We would go to the neighbor strawberry farm and pick strawberries for the farmer, earning ten cents a basket. I loved picking them but Anne would fizzle out after about six quarts and ready to go home. I would stay and pick sixty quarts at times but Anne had to wait until I finished since we had to leave the same time. Same with our family vegetable garden, my dad would pay us 25 cents to weed the garden. Anne, not wanting to be outside would pay me 50 cents to weed her part. So that’s how I became an entrepreneur early in life.
Since Nancy was “the baby” she always got her way, probably because of her cute little cheeks and mischievous smile. We called her the flower child since she grew up in the 60’s and was like a free bird.
While I love both my sisters, Nancy was also closer to me than Anne. Maybe because when I went on my first date at 16 years old, Anne told my mom and dad I couldn’t have a boyfriend before she did. Then when I got engaged she told me I can’t get married before her. Maybe it’s because I’m the middle child, but I have always been set in my ways and do my own thing. I didn’t listen to Anne. Almost 53 years ago I went on my first date without her blessing and I married my love, my first date, two years later. Anne realized there was nothing she could say or do, the wedding was going on! This is me with my two siblings and mom at my bridal shower.
Nancy and I can start a conversation and bring up things that happened years ago like it was yesterday. Even though we are ten years apart in age, we are so close.
For the past few years my cousin has come to Myrtle Beach and we’ve had mini reunions with each other. This past fall, Nancy joined us and what a great time bringing up memories of the past! This is a picture of me, my cousin Joy in the center and my younger sister Nancy.
I hope you have enjoyed meeting my siblings, I’d love to hear about yours. Do you have siblings and if so how many? Are you close to them all?
This is a blog I wrote last October that goes along with National Sibling Day, it’s about me not being the youngest child anymore. But I was the cutest!

I have several siblings. I have two real sisters, two half-sisters, a step sister and 2 half brothers. I am next to the oldest. Most think I am the oldest as my older sister is very immature. I am not close to most of my siblings for various reasons – live too far away, too much drama, addictions, jealousy etc.
I just read your sibling blog Sandy! Your oldest sister sounds like mine and I know what you mean by too much drama. Thanks for stopping by.
I have one younger brother and yes, pretty close to him, though my brother, his family, and my parents are all in India so phone calls, texting, photos, facetime and visits to India whenever we can help a long way and my little girl (who is a lot like my brother) and my niece(who is a lot like me!) are BFFs now though they only meet once a year at the most 🙂
It’s hard when people live far away but it’s great that we have facetime! All my grandchildren are scattered throughout different states but with the computer, it’s like they’re only a keyboard away! Thanks for visiting LadyInRead.
and thank you for reminding me of this.. earlier this school year i was looking at what each day was and adding it to my daughter’s school lunch as the fun fact of the day. and somehow just stopped doing that.. will let her and her brother know too 🙂
What a great idea to add a special day in your daughter’s lunch! There are so many National days, wonder if there’s a National Blogging Day! LOL Thanks for visiting LadyInRead!

I’m waiting for you to start you blog Nancy! I think the one thing I will never forget is when you were chasing my and I cut my shin to the bone! Okay, I know what you’re gonna say, I was chasing you! Love you too little sis! <3
My sibling and I are about as alike as gold and mud. Glad to see you have more in common.
My siblings and I get along however our 2 daughters are like your gold and mud. Being the middle sibling, I always kept things under control. LOL
