National Poem in your Pocket Day and The Lights Began to Flicker
Today is NATIONAL POEM IN YOUR POCKET DAY! National Poem in Your Pocket Day shares the way poetry brings joy by simply carrying one in your pocket. When you share the poem, you’ll bring joy to others. A perfect day to share National Poem in your Pocket day and The Lights Began to Flicker oem.p
Every so often a saying or thought pops in my head and I come up with a silly poem. That’s what I did the other morning when we had tornado warnings in the area. While waiting for the warnings to pass I posted a one liner on my FB wall “As the lights began to flicker.” After posting this line, the other lines just came to me and I wrote this short poem.
The lights began to flicker, the lightning lights the sky. The trees are bending in the wind, the birds can’t even fly.
The ocean waves are crashing, up upon the shore. The wind and rain keep coming, we don’t need that anymore.
The worst is over, the storm has passed. A gentle rain is falling, the sun is out at last.
I started writing poems when a thought or picture passes my mind. Many This is another poem I wrote way before I started my blog, I Close My Eyes
Cute. I write poems all the time (albeit when inspired- or dared). Some of them even rhyme. I learned that rhyming wasn’t required, and sometimes not even desired. The trick involves the metric choice, that’s why poems cause us to rejoice.
What a great poem Roy! Thanks for visiting and sharing that.
Beautiful. I enjoy reading your writings and seeing your photo.
Thanks Nancy, it worked out great that it was also National Poem in your Pocket Day!
That’s a lovely poem, Martha! My mom used to write poetry sometimes, too. She called them her cute little ditties.
Oh I like that, her little ditties! My mom wrote poems also, I think that’s were my love for writing came Jeanine.

Great post and photos. 🙂
Thanks Amanda. I’ve always like to add photos to my blogs.
Thank you, Martha, I turned 80 a couple of months ago and the way people are treating me I was worried that “The lights begin to flicker” would be another poem about life’s journey. I would still read it even if it was because my story isn’t complete yet. You do have many talents, thanks for sharing them with us
Oh my I never thought of that Chef William. Why do people have to think when a person hits a certain age that were ready to fall apart. I say we’re as young as we feel and keep on moving and enjoying things.
