NATIONAL MEATBALL DAY

NATIONAL MEATBALL DAY

I love checking out the different National Days.  Today, March 9th, is NATIONAL MEATBALL DAY! My hubby makes the BEST meatballs but has never shared his recipe, not even with the dog!  LOL I think one of the reasons they taste so good is how he leaves them in the sauce for a few days.  His meatballs are not dry because of this and they are SO delicious. Step into our kitchen to watch as Rich prepares his meatballs!

Meatballs are an inexpensive meal if the ground beef and sauce are on sale. I also stock up on sauce to have on hand when ground beef is on sale.

Rich starts with the ground beef, adds eggs and his secret ingredients that are hiding under the napkin. He adds sauce to a large pot and adds extra secret ingredients to that also to have ready when the meatballs have been cooked.

He takes chunks of ground beef with his added secret ingredients and rolls them into the meatballs and fry them in a pan before adding to the simmering sauce.

After all the meatballs are made and added to the sauce, he lets them simmer all day then retires the pan to the refrigerator.   He pulls the pot out the next evening and simmers them for a few more hours, putting back in the refrigerator again when done.  When not simmering on the stove, he always puts them in the refrigerator.

This is done for two days and finally we are ready to have his mouth-watering meatballs!  I love how many different ways meatballs can be served.  Of course spaghetti and meatballs are well-known to must everyone but I also love a great meatball sandwich, topped with melted cheese.  What’s your favorite way to eat meatballs and did you know it was National Meatball Day?

I am not a lover of meatballs but would you believe I just had meatballs for lunch with noodles? I had no idea today was meatballs day until I saw your post. I just happened to order the food from a guy who sells in our building. Had I known I would have taken a pic for my IG. Seems like a pretty easy recipe to follow though. Thanks for sharing

  4. Leaves them for DAYS? That’s an interesting way of cooking. Will try it out when I have my own home (y) PS: I never thought of meatballs with melted cheese. I am sooo hungry now!!!!!!

By leaving the meatballs in the sauce, even when in the refrigerator, the sauce soaks into the meat and flavors them. They have to be stored in the fridge when not being simmered on the stove. Thanks for stopping by Shaun-Kay!

    • Martha says:

They are so easy to make and can be “tailored” to your own taste. I love a good meatball covered with cheese! Thanks for visiting Godwin.

I normally don’t eat meatballs because they are made with pork. My boyfriend is allergic to pork. I don’t bring any in the house.

    • Martha says:

Rich doesn’t use pork in his meatballs, just ground beef. Occasionally he will add Italian sausage to the sauce but mostly just the meatballs. Thanks for stopping by Sandy.

  9. My favorite way to eat meatballs is on hoagie bread, creating a delicious and filling sub sandwich. I did not know that Meatball Day exists but now that I know I am planning how to celebrate next year.
