National Kick Butt Day
Today is National Kick Butt Day, it’s celebrated the 2nd Monday in October and it’s the day to get motivated and get projects done whether at home or work. No more planning, get busy and do whatever you have been putting off!
I have been kicking butt this entire month working on decluttering the garage and upstairs guest room closet and den. I have weird sleeping schedules and if I can’t sleep I find projects to do until the wee hours in the morning. It seems I can get so much accomplished from midnight to 4AM and I just completed my early morning National Kick Butt Day project.

I’m doing a major overall in the garage and my neighbor and his son brought our old TV cabinet from upstairs to the garage a few days ago. I moved a few shelves and put the cabinet in the garage for storage. Now what to do with the hole in the room.

Yesterday I completed the upstairs guest room closet and there was an old cabinet that was used for storage since Alex was 4 or 5 (she’s 29 now LOL) and I decided to remove that since it had a broken door so I lugged it downstairs to trash it and replaced it with the shelf from the garage. Then after looking and thinking I decided maybe I could use cabinet in the upstairs den so I lugged it back upstairs. I removed the doors and now I can use it as a bookshelf. I had two options for placement and I decided putting it against the side wall was best when you see the final room picture.

I had it all set up in the wee hours of the morning when another idea hit me. The old stereo we had at the shop from the early 90’s was just sitting in the corner so I set that on top of the cabinet and it’s the perfect size! The drawers now hold the ancient cassette tapes and CD’s so now when Chris and Bryon visit that can listen to oldies as the snack on munchies. LOL
One of my Market Place finds were these two bar stools but after I got them home I realized they were too short for the counter. However they worked perfect upstairs and can be used as extra seating or snack trays in either the den or the guest room.

Tada, the upstairs den is finished….for now. I always move things around after I think everything is set but for now I’m happy with how the room looks. I still have a lot the things to go through and decide where they will go. We decorated this room back in 1994 with the Nascar memorabilia and outdoor theme. The deer skins on the ends of the cornice and back of the sofa are from when Rich went hunting back in the 60’s and 70’s, things like that I can never get rid of.
As you can see I am very frugal and like to reuse things that may still have life in them. We’ve never been fancy and our home is definitely lived in. I need one of those signs, “If you come to see me the door is always open, if you come to see my house I need a week to tidy it up” LOL
So do you have a project for National Kick Butt Day?
