National Gardening Day

I had another blog topic in mine but when I saw it was National Gardening Day I had to make a quick change. April is also National Garden Month so you have all month to get working on your gardens. Whether your love is flower gardening or vegetable gardening, today is your day and April is your month.

On my Face Book memories today, this photo popped up that I took in 2021 of Mom’s Memory Garden. I love when the azalea bush is in full bloom, it’s so beautiful. I just wish it lasted longer but when that one is finished blooming, the roses take over. We have color in the garden from early spring to early winter.

This is Mom’s Memory Garden now, the azaleas are gone but the rose bushes are filled with buds and blooms. This is my happy place because I know mom loved flowers and I feel her presence when I’m out there.

I took these photos today, they are some of the knock out roses under our eating area windows. I love the close up of the three buds surrounding the open rose.

This rose bush has always been my favorite. It has deep almost burgundy roses. When they open, they look like long stem roses.

We keep adding not only flowers to Mom’s Memory Garden but also Angels and Lia even added some of her painted rocks. The wisteria crawling on the fence is just beginning to bud so that will be filled with purple flowers soon.

As for our vegetable garden this year, I don’t think we will be doing much more than this lettuce, cabbage, peas and carrots. Lia loves her carrots and is patiently waiting from them to grow.

Lia loves to help pick vegetables, I came across this video of her picking lettuce when she was 4 years old. How she has grown in the past few years!

Lia was so excited the other day when she found three pea pods that were ready to pick. She shelled them and I cooked them up, all 10 peas! LOL I added some butter and were they delicious!

Lis is excited to watch her strawberries get bigger and bigger. So far the plant is loaded with small ones but they’ll get bigger soon.

So there is my National Gardening Day, I love gardening and I’m so happy that Lia loves gardening also.

  1. Martha, I will need another month to be ready for National Gardening Day! But I’m so glad you are ready. I love your garden. <3

    Lia is learning so many valuable things by gardening!
    Your flowers are beautiful, and I am sure your entire garden is a paradise for insects, birds and small animals!

      Thanks Tamara, we do have tons of bees and butterflies around the flowers. Of course we also get some “nasty” critters but I spray dawn dish soap diluted in water and that keeps them away.

  3. I visited a nursery this morning with friends but I leave the plant buying to them. Plants see me coming and beg me to leave them there because they know they won’t survive in my house. I either water too much, or not enough, there is no in between. Your garden looks beautiful and the roses must fill your house with their wonderful perfume. I love roses. Thank you for sharing your story.

      Me and inside plants don’t do well either Maureen! I prefer plants outside and now I’m working on Pop’s Memory Garden. I love flowers;

  4. Lovely garden! In Virginia we don’t dare even plant most things before the tenth of May…making spring a hungry time. Strawberries start in May. Peas mostly ripen in June, green beans in July, corn in August, though one can always gamble on a few early plants. Oh well…we can survive without air conditioning, at least out in the country.

  5. It’s so good to get outside and Garden. My friend, Abby, loves to Garden too.
