National Chocolate Day 2017

National Chocolate Day 2017

Today , October 28th is the day that is declared National Chocolate Day 2017 and that means EAT CHOCOLATE!!

Did you know that chocolate comes for the seed of a cacao tree?  The seeds are very bitter and they have to be fermented for the rich chocolate flavor.  After the seeds have been fermented, the beans are dried, cleaned and roasted.  The shell is then removed after being roasted to produce cacao nibs.  The nibs are ground into cocoa mass, which is pure chocolate in rough form.  The cocoa mass can be liquefied and molded with or without other ingredients. At this point in the process, it is called chocolate liquor.  The chocolate liquor may be processed into two components: cocoa solids and cocoa butter.

Chocolate is great for a delicious cup of hot cocoa, milk shakes, fudge, candy and of course brownies, cake and cookies.

My favorite cake is my grandmother’s mayonnaise cake, it’s so moist and super delicious when topped with her whipped frosting with coconut.  If you love chocolate cake, this is a must try recipe: http://themarthareview.com/delicious-cake-my-grandmother-would-make/

Another great recipe I love to make are Hazelnut Biscotti, they melt in your mouth! http://themarthareview.com/delicious-hazelnut-biscotti-with-fine-naturals-organic-cacao-powder/

So what are your plans for National Chocolate Day 2017, will you be baking something delicious, running to the store to pick up a variety of chocolate bars or making a nice chocolate milk shake?  I will be making my grandmother’s chocolate mayo cake with my new mixer!

I am ALL in on this one! LOL – I have a whole bag of Hershey Kisses downstairs that are calling me! It is my obligation now armed the knowledge you have provided, Martha!

    • Martha says:

Hershey Kisses work Paul! I just finished frosting my chocolate cake and the chocolate ice cream I made is in the freezer. I’m all set! Glad I could provide this great announcement so you can join in on National Chocolate Day!

  3. Jill says:

I didn’t know it was National Chocolate Day! Yesterday I made some oatmeal cookie dough bites with chocolate chips. Does that count?

    • Martha says:

That works Jill, as long as they have chocolate you’re good! LOL You were smart making them a day early, you can just enjoy eating them today! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your cookies!

  4. Janice Gill says:

Sadly chocolate is mostly off my menu unless it is sugar free but hopefully lots of people will make the most of the day 😁

    • Martha says:

Chocolate is my downfall Janice, but I haven’t even had much in the past few weeks. I go in spurts but today I’ll probably eat my entire cake! Thanks for stopping by.

  5. How neat, all those deals!! My chocolate love is hot cocoa. Maybe I’ll make some tonight, to celebrate. 🙂

  6. Alana says:

I didn’t even know about today and the discounts. Perhaps I will eat some chocolate (I have more than enough in my house); for me every day is chocolate day!

    • Martha says:

I could celebrate chocolate day every day also Alana! I hope some were able to take advantage of some of the discounts. Thanks for visiting and enjoy your chocolate.

  7. Thank you for giving me a great excuse to eat some chocolate today, even if I do need to exercise caution until I see if I can handle the caffeine in my current condition. The pharmacist told me to be careful. Still, a little dark chocolate bark with pumpkin seeds shouldn’t hurt. It’s just so hard to stop with a little. The chocolate cake looks yummy.

    • Martha says:

I’m so glad I could give you an excuse for chocolate Barbara! Did you know that caffeine is not in all chocolates, it’s added to some but is not naturally in chocolate. There are also organic cacao powders that don’t have caffeine, maybe that would give you a chance to have a chocolate at times. Dark chocolate is suppose to be the best and healthiest. Thanks for stopping by, go have a bit of bark with pumpkin seeds, sounds yummy.

  8. Martha, OMG! I somehow missed that today was going to be National Chocolate Day! As soon as I finish this comment, I must go grab a chocolate snack (ooooo– which one?). I love your paragraph on processing the chocolate. And of course, the polyphenolic compounds in chocolate are so good for our hearts and brains. Thanks also for the list of special stuff from the chocolate companies. Fun fun fun!

    • Martha says:

See, we can always find something good in everything! I’m glad we found it in chocolate Kebba! I made my chocolate ice cream and my chocolate mayo cake, both were delicious! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your chocolate snack!

  9. Time to celebrate! It won’t be hard for me. A day without chocolate is like a day without sunshine!

  10. Julie Waldron says:

Everyday is National Chocolate Day around here! I have a few family members that don’t care for chocolate, I can’t imagine….

    • Martha says:

It could be National Chocolate Day for me also Julie but hubby hardly ever eats chocolate! Oh well, someone has to finish the cake! LOL Thanks for visiting!
