My Best Friend Carlos is Moving

I want to tell you about my best friend Carlos. I met Carlos when I was 4 months old at his 1st birthday party. I will be 4 years old next month, Carlos will be 5 years old in December so we have been special friends for almost 4 years!

I have been to all his birthday parties and he has been to all of mine. Carlos and I have been together for so many birthday celebrations.

Easter 2021

Easter 2022

We’ve had Easter Egg hunts, Christmas parties and just fun playdays. When COVID started we had to go such a long time without playing with each other, all we could do was yell hi and wave to each other from across the street.

Another fun time was when Carlos came over and helped me get the garden ready to plant! We worked so hard raking and getting the soil all ready.

We even had fun times trick or treating together!

Last Christmas I made Carlos a Christmas ornament from the Home Depot Kid’s Project kit. At that time I didn’t realize we wouldn’t be celebrating Christmas together any more.

A few days ago Carlos and his mommy and daddy moved from across the street from me to Virginia! Last week we had a playday before I went to Florida with my grandparents and daddy. Carlos came over to my house and tene we walked to his house. Ma and pop run out to get pizza and we had a pizza party together! We planned to spend this past Tuesday together all day with my bubble machine and bounce house but because I came home from Florida sick that didn’t happen. I was sad that we couldn’t have one more day to laugh and play before Carlos moved!

I heard Carlos was asking to come play but his mommy told him I was very sick. He jumped up, got his shoes on and said, “I HAVE to go see her!” Carlos is so special, we have such great playdays.. we play, we bake and and have picnics.

From walking to the mail box, to baking cookies, having picnics, fun on the slip n slide, and hugs when needed, Carlos and I have so many fun memories to hang on to.

I remember one day last spring, I wasn’t very happy but I don’t know why. When I got over to Carlos’s house he knew something was wrong. We were in his back yard when he asked me what’s wrong. I really didn’t know but once he gave me a hug I felt better!

We loved to play outside. Sometimes it would be in the backyard on my swingset. Other times we would ride our scooters down to the mail box or Carlos would take me for a ride in his truck! Whatever we were doing, we had fun!

Carlos even came over and helped me with my Alzheimer’s fundraiser! Lia’s Sunshine Bakery table was filled with all kinds of the cookies, brownies and muffins I made and within a few hours they were all gone! Everyone who came to my fundraiser sale said they were so excited to see two happy faces.

I liked playing with Carlos, we always had so much fun! He had a little firehouse playhouse in his backyard that we would play in. Wednesday morning when I woke up Pop called me outside and saw Carlos’s playhouse in my backyard! This was the day they were moving and his daddy brought it over for me to play in and think of Carlos! I was so surprised and will always remember the fun times we had over the past 4 years playing together and having fun.

Pop set the new house on a foundation and even put up a flag! I started decorating the inside with a little chair, a table and some decorations on the table. My house was just about ready for Snowball to come and check it out. He approved the house! I will think of Carlos everytime I’m playing in my new house.

I drew Carlos a picture before he left and he’s going to hang it in his room at his new house. I’m excited that Carlos and I will be having video chats so we can still “see” each other. Carlos and I have had so many fun times and I know we will be visiting each other from time to time to have more playdays and picnics!

Carlos was my first little friend and I’m so glad we became such great friends! I’ll see you again Carlos!

Carlos sounds like a fabulous friend. I do hope you guys manage to keep in touch and still celebrate your birthdays! I mean, birthday cake – with sprinkles? Who else would you rather share it with?
That little firehouse is adorable. I hope you will have fun playing with it even though Carlos won’t be around. Are there other kids in the neighborhood?

Carlos and Lia have had a special bond since they first met Tamara. I know throughout the years they will both go their seperate ways but I do hope they stay in touch no matter how far apart they are. Lia says, ” I love my firehouse playhouse and ma and I are going to make curtains for the windows! I’ll think of Carlos everytime I’m playing in it. We don’t have any others kids my age but I’m starting school in August so I’m looking forward to meeting new friends at school!

This is so special that you have all those memories documented!!! As a recovering scrapbooker, I know the importance and meaning of photos! As one who moved a lot through the years, I don’t remember what my first playmate looked like except that her hair was red, and she wore braided pigtails. Pippy Longstocking look-a-like.

It seems like we can always remember something about our old time friends Julie! I’m hoping to make this blog in a printed book, one for Lia and one for Carlos.

How sweet and sad at the same time! Will they be able to keep in touch? Have a great day!

    • Martha says:

Yes Dominique, it’s very sad, the two have been friends since almost day one. But thanks to Zoom and FaceTime they can have video chats and we plan on making road trips to meet in the middle (it’s only about 2 1/2 hours for each of us) for playdays! It’s sad but it will work out. Have a wonderful day!

What a very special friend that you’ll remember fondly forever. The only good thing that came out of Covid isolation was the ubiquitousness of apps that keep us in touch with one another. Thank you for sharing this special friendship with us. Sending warm wishes to you today….

    • Martha says:

Oh yes Cheryl, I’m sure they will stay in touch and the memories will stay with her. I see road trips in the future! Lia starts school next month so I’m sure she will make new little friends.

  5. Always sad when two friends have to part- especially when they’ve been friends since (almost) birth.

    • Martha says:

Yes this was very sad Roy, Lia and Carlos are so attached but they are young and thanks to Zoom and FaceTime they can still “visit” with each other. Carlos is the only other little one that Lia plays with in our subdivision but on a good note, she will start school next month and since she’s a social butterfly I’m sure she will make a few new little friends. But I don’t think she will ever forget Carlos!

Awe, what true friendship. So sorry he is moving away Lia, but thank goodness for Zoom and video chats. At least you can stay in touch even if he is not across the street. Give Snowball lots of extra hugs when you miss him.

    • Martha says:

Lia says she will give Snowball lots of extra hugs Samantha. Carlos and Lia can still have good times laughing and chatting with each other on Zoom!

It’s sad to see a friend move. Thank Goodness for technology such as Email, Facetime, and remember there is also sending letters in the mail. 🙂

    • Martha says:

Facetime is great Amanda! Carlos and Lia did that the other day and mustly just laughed at each other but it was fun to see the “together” again!
