My Alzheimer’s Fundraiser Memory Book!
Last year was my first time participating in the 2022 Longest Day Alzheimer’s Fundraiser. I didn’t sign up until May and the season was over the end of August. I held bake sales, had a contest where the winner received a one of a kind painting created by me and so many of my friends and even Facebook friends that I’ve never even met donate to Lia’s Sunshine Bakery team.
South Carolina had 150 teams and 322 paricipants and raised a total of $156,318.00 for Alzheimer’s research and care! When it was all over, I recieved $1780.00 in donations thanks to so many! I was so surprised when I opened the mail after the 2022 fundraiser was over and saw I was awarded certificates for being in the top 25 SC ALZ STAR for both team and individual participant plus another for being a 2022 Solstice Champion.
But I also had another suprise when I opened a package shortly after the fundraiser was over. Ma created my Alzheimer’s Fundraiser Memory Book for me!
My memory book has a picture of me on the cover and it’s a story of my fundraiser. Ma started out telling about Lia’s Sunshine Bakery fundraiser and has a picture of my great, great grandmother and my special neighbor Ruthie, who my Alzheimer’s fundraiser was in memory for.
The pictures ma used tell a story of my fundraising from shopping for baking supplies, me baking cookies and my first Lia’s Bake Sale fundraiser I had.
The end of the book has the ending of the season and me sending everyone a big thank you for donating.
The book put together from Forever.com is so well made with a hard cover and 22 thick glossy pages. Ma even added captions on the pictures and I will keep this memory book forever.
I have already signed up for the 2023 season of the Alzheimer’s fundraiser and have received $365.00 in donations and will be participating in the Longest Day for both winter and summer solstice.
I had my first Lia’s Sunshine Bakery fundraiser for 2023 at our community fall garage sale a few weeks ago. It was a huge success and was sold out of my cookies and brownies within a few hours! I collected $140.00 in donations plus another $100.00 from garage sale items.
Ma and I didn’t realize this until she read me this FB post that I was the first returning team to host a fundraiser for this season.
This year I have longer to work on my fundraiser and mommy, ma and me have a few new ideas coming up. There will be more bake sales and we’re working on making up “pre-order” cookie boxes with donations.
Everyone loved my painting that Susan A. won last year and I will have more paintings to create and maybe even have an auction! We’re still working on all the details on the different ideas but I’m so excited to help out with the Alzheimer’s Fundraiser.
Stop by my Facebook page often to check on Lia’s Sunshine Bakery Alzheimer’s Fundraiser progress and read about my updates! Thank you all for visiting Friday Story Time by Lia this week and I hope you enjoyed my Alzheimer’s Fundraiser Memory Book!
If you’re interested in making your own memory book, you can check out Forever.com and see all the great ideas for making books and other memory products. Ma is already working on gift ideas!
Glad to see you starting on an activist path early on in life.
Thanks Roy, ma said hopefully Alzheimer’s will be gone by the time my mommy is closer to the age it may hit.
Great job Lia and Mom! This is a great organization and I’m glad you are raising money and awareness!
Lia says thank you Diane. She is full of compassion and this is a great way to teach her about raising money for organizations.
Happy Friday Lia and Martha! Great story time today about all you have done with your compassionate efforts, what an amazing family you all are! I love the picture memory book, that is a perfect gift, perhaps that could be a fundraiser idea. Best of luck on your Sunshine Bakery and raising money for alzheimer’s awareness. Sending lots of love and virtual hugs.
That’s a great idea Jaime about the fundraiser idea. We’re working on a Holiday raffle basket with gift cards so the book might just fit in! Hugs and love from Lia and me.
Lia will remember this for sure. What a lesson for her. The cookies were so delicious. I tried hiding some but that didn’t work.
I thought the book would be a beautiful memory for her when she gets older and she can then remember how she helped so many Thelma! You’ll have to find a better hiding place! LOL
I’m so proud of you guys!
Thanks Amanda!
