Moving from Here to There
It seems like I just can’t leave well enough alone! Not long ago I reorganized my kitchen counters and I was very happy with the setup of everything but then I was second guessing myself and started moving from here to there.
There is nothing more pleasing then organized countertops and everything easily reachable. This was my reorganizing a year or so ago and I liked it. But….
Something didn’t seem right, the mixer and broiler oven seemed too busy next to each other and there were too many components of my Ninja that I didn’t use often enough to leave on the counter full time.
I started in the corner and removed the broiler oven and it seemed to give me much more counter space for cooking and baking. But still not sure if that’s how I wanted this corner to look. So I started moving things here and there.
Instead of wiping everything off the counters and starting from scratch, I did one section at a time. The next things to be moved were the Ninja pieces that are only occasionally used. I removed the coffee maker since I don’t drink coffee. Now all I had was the Ninja blender. That gave me room to move the broiler oven to this side of the counter.
Yes I like this now, I finally got it! By moving the mixer to the back wall, stacking the bowls in the corner to add color and moving the candy jars it gave me the look I was looking for! With the broiler oven by the Ninja it brought my red color to that side and it’s also perfect to display my three special mugs.
You might be wondering where the other Ninja pieces went. Well I reorganized the cupboard above it and got rid of stuff that was just there and not being used. All the parts fit perfect and they are still easy to get to when I need them.
So was I finished? Of course not, I had to move things around on the other counters even though they looked fine.
I pulled my pressure cooker/crockpot out of the cupboard Friday to cook up some pork and when I went to put the pot away I realized I have to almost crawl in the cupboard to where I store it. I don’t use it often because it’s such a pain to get to it and put it back. So thinking if it was easier to access I might use it more!
Next plan of attack was to move the knife block and spice rack to the counter where the mixer had been and move the candy jar back in the cupboard. I thought it looked okay until my daughter said the spices needed to be the stove since I use them when cooking. (Makes sense!) So I left the knife block there, brought one candy jar back and moved the spices back by the stove and crockpot cooker. Did you also notice I changed out the red door knobs to a brushed nickel with white? They match my new ceiling fixture perfectly and I had them hanging around just waiting to use somewhere.
By golly, by gee, I think I got it! I’m happy with both sides of the kitchen counters! Now that the counters were neat and organized, I decided to work on the drawers and I knew this project would be a quick one.
My daughter and son-in-law gave me beautiful silverware for Christmas so I quickly removed the old set, moved my steak knives to the drawer and they fit perfect behind my new wooden organizer.
The other four drawers were quick and easy. The drawer in the first picture had been used for odds and ends, a few handy to get to tools and tape measure, what I would call my junk drawer. I took everything out, organized the things in a tool box and put it in the garage right next to the kitchen so still easy to get at. Since I hardly use any of the items in the last two pictures except my egg slicer and kitchen scale, I’ll probably be readdressing these come garage sale time. LOL
Since I came up with my new decluttering a small area at a time plan, I’m getting so much more done in a shorter time. What do you think about my setup, is there anything you would suggest to be in a different spot? I’m always open for suggestions when I’m moving from here to there. Meanwhile, it’s time to take a short break for some hot chocolate flavored with raspberry syrup.
