More Money Saving Tips
I’m sharing a few more money saving tips I’ve either come up with or from some of my Facebook friends. Every little bit of savings comes in handy these days for many of us.
Household Tips
Sponges
My first tip comes from my Facebook friend Marie. How many use a sponge for washing dishes and toss it out after a few uses? Marie came up with the idea of cutting the sponge in three or four strips depending on the size of your sponge. This way you can wash your dishes with a smaller sponge, toss it out when it’s days are done and still have a few more little sponges left!
Dish Soap
Do you throw out the bottle of dish soap when the liquid is almost gone? Add a small amount of water, shake the bottle and you have enough to squirt out to wash a few more dishes. Another thing you can do with the extra soap that you added water to is sprinkle on flowers to keep the bugs away.
Coffee Filters
Do you have an abundance of coffee filters that you aren’t using because you have a new style that doesn’t use them? Don’t throw them away! They make great snack “plates” or use in the microwave when warming up a piece of pizza, a sandwich or brownie! Place one in the bottom of a cast iron pan before stacking another one on top, this absorbs moistures and prevents rust. Use a coffee filter to clean windows, they are lint free and disposable. Plus there are many kids crafts you can do with them. Lia made a mini parachute from a coffee filter. Do you have any other ideas for coffee filters?
Food Tips
Left over Cauliflower
If I have uncooked leftover fresh cauliflower I cut it in pieces and grate it in the blender to make riced cauliflower. Add to a freezer bag, marked with the date, and put in freezer, shaking it while freezing to keep it from freezing in one clump. When you need a quick and easy meal, pour what you need in a fry pan with butter and avocado oil and stir fry. You can add, chicken, beef, tuna, or salmon for a delicious and inexpensive meal. I also like to add peas to add color to my meal.
Broccoli Crumbs
I save everything, even the small frozen broccoli pieces at the bottom of the five pound bag I get. When the large bag is empty, I add the broccoli crumbs to a smaller bag and put in the freezer. They are great to add to omelets, soups, mac ‘n cheese or even the riced cauliflower.
Cool Money Challenges
I always like to come up with new ways to save and I’ve always had fun with the 52 week and the 365 day money challenges. This is a blog I wrote in 2018 with some cool money challenges that help you save. It’s even great for kids to learn how to save money. For the 52 week money challenge you will have saved $1378.00 at the end of the 52 weeks if you keep it up. Instead of a $1.00 have kids save 10 cents, a quarter or 50 cents and see how it grows!
There are so many ways money and these are just a few ways I save. Do you have any more money saving tips to share?
I change my sponges every month. They’re cheap enough that I don’t worry about them. But, I do savor every little tidbit of broccoli and cauliflower- maybe not making riced cauliflower, but adding them to soups, salads, and side dishes.
I do the same with my broccoli and cauliflower too Roy! The way Lia goes through sponges, cutting them for her is a good idea, if she sees a spot on one, she tosses it!
Martha, you are wise as always! I’m already doing most of these things. However, I never never thought of any of those uses for dry coffee filters! I must go see if I still have some in That Cabinet. I especially love the idea of simply using them as snack plates! Thanks for more really great ideas!
I love coming up with ideas for just about anything Kebba. Snack plates that don’t need washing, a win win!
What great tips, Martha! I practice the 1st tip for dish soap, now I’ll start doing the 2nd one. I especially like the coffee filter → glass cleaner tip. Thanks much.
They are great for glass cleaner Florence, I keep a stack in the bathroom cupboard!
These are great tips. My husband cuts some paper towels for small uses.
That’s a good idea Cheryl, especially when only a small piece is needed.
The coffee filter idea is great! When you have to buy a pack of 100 or 200 it takes forever to use them up for coffee anyway! 😊
I started coming up with alternative ideas when we stopped using them for coffee and still have a pack of over 100 Angie!
I like saving my spare change. I hate to admit it, but I miss the allowance my grandpa used to give me. I had a small budget and I made it work. Looking back at that now I wish Vocational Rehab would of minded there own business instead of saying-that’s not enough to live off of. I knew it wasn’t, but God was taking care of me with my grandpa’s help. God is still with me know even when I can’t feel him.
Spare change adds up quickly Amanda. We can always get by with what we have, sometimes it’s a challenge but yes, God is always with us helping through hard times and good times.
